Dialaphone - 02 to 02 Number Port
I currently have a sim only contract with 02 and I'm looking to take a new contract out with dialaphone and it must be on 02 also however it isn't at all clear that I will be able to keep my existing mobile number.
This is the relevant section of the dap website:
Anybody any experience of trying to move an existing 02 number to a dap 02 contact?

Please note that Porting means that you are transferring your mobile number from one Network to another and therefore it is not possible to port your number on the same Network.
To keep your existing number on the Networks listed above is very straightforward - just complete the following steps:
1) Place your order with Dial-a-Phone.
2) Contact your existing network or service provider to request your PAC (Porting Authorisation Code).
When you receive your new Dial-a-Phone package and it has been connected it will operate with a new number so that you can use your phone without having to wait for the port to be completed.
3) Contact your new network or service provider on the number below and quote the new number we have issued you, your existing number that you want to keep and the PAC.
4) Once porting has been complete, please update your account by clicking on My Numbers.

Havent done it with 02 but it will be the same as all ops I would have thought. Which is that they dont accept their own PAC so you would need to port out to another operator i.e T Mobile and then port back in. I have done Orange to Orange this way several times over the past 6 years0

And I thought we had a right to keep our numbers. Seems very odd that just because you want to stay with the same network provider but use a different company to supply the contract that it's not permitted. You would have thought this would be the easiest of all scenarios.
Point 3 in their in their guidance isn't clear as it says to quote the network the number dap give you. They don't say how you get that number ie is it automatically provided with new contracts or does it have to be requested?
Anybody have any problems doing things this way. I do not want to lose my number as I have had it for all the time I've had mobiles which is a long time and I have no desire to reissue my number to everyone.0 -
Yeah, you can do it, just ignore what Dialaphone say
.
What you'll need to do is setup your new account and then contact O2 customer service (202 from your O2 handset) and they'll be able to sort it for you, what they'll generally do is move your old number onto a temporary pay as you go SIM card and then move it onto your new account although there is other ways they can do it.
A lot of networks wont do it for you and you're forced to port your number to another network and then back again, I'm not sure if O2 officially support it (they'd rather you upgraded through them), but they'll do it for you anyway.0 -
Brilliant Thanks0

O2 will do it for you. They will migrate (not port) the number for you. As far as I know they are the only network which will allow a back door upgrade without going via pay and go.0
