March 2012 brides and grooms

  • I'm getting married on the 31st March as well! It seems to be a popular date. We've booked the venue - phew! (Our second choice venue was booked up for the 31st & 24th March already, amazing considering it's more than a year away still)

We've provisionally booked the registrar - I think they basically pencil you in until you go and see them to do the Notice of Marriage thing. You can't do that until 12 months before. Our registrar wants us to make the appointment in April...presumably so they can confirm it with us.

Also got a date with some friends at the end of March to go dress shopping. I had a good tip from a recently wed friend who said it's a good idea to try dresses on at a similar time of year to when you're getting married so your skin tone is about right. So that's what I'm doing!

I'm asking my MoH today if she's be my MoH! :D

Also, OH is going to listen to a band this afternoon that might be a possibilty for the evening. :)

There's still so much to do!

  • OMG. Reality check today. We've done our budget now that we have done some research and have come to the scary figure of £15000...excluding honeymoon!

It really is true, mention the word 'wedding' to suppliers and the price rockets!

So...the challenge is on to reduce costs where we can. We're tied in to food with the venue so we're stuck with those costs (having been there again today for a wedding fair we're absolutely certain it's the right venue for us), but I've emailed a load of photographers today to ask for costs to produce digital images only and then we can do our own photobook afterwards.

jen - our costs are really high as well due to the cost of the food at the venue! We're trying to reduce costs in other areas too.

  • Well i've had a busy week wedding wise!

First of all we wrote and sent out our save the dates. Took us a while to finalise the guest list as we were over our venues capacity due to OH's large extended family! But we've cut out a few cousins he never sees and now we're way with limits with some spare seats incase we want to add anyone else by the time we send the invites.

Secondly I went wedding dress shopping again with my sister (and BM) and found the perfect dress. Unfortunately the price tag was £1295, but seeing as the sample dress was a perfect fit and spotless, the shop owner offered to sell it to me for £475! So now I have a beautiful dress hanging in my cupboard!

Then later in the week OH and I went to Hatton Garden to look at wedding rings. I had mentally set a budget of £1000 for both rings. The first shop we went in quoted us £1200 for the two but the next shop offered us the exact same rings for £675! So we're going back on payday to buy them.

So it's been a busy week for me! I'm feeling super organised now!

How is everyone else getting on?
  • Wow Bridebelle, you've got your dress already? I'm not even thinking about looking until the end of March! It's quite difficult to know when to buy though isn't it - I was looking through off the peg dress on the internet over Christmas and a lot of the high street shops seem to let their stock run down over winter and then restock in January. I'm sort of thinking that I need to have ordered a dress at least six months before the wedding to avoid running out of options! I've got a diary date with two friends to go to a couple of shops at the end of March.

We've had some photography prices back as well, has anyone else found that there seems to be a big difference between prices? I know the argument is that there are different standards of photography...but still! We've had costs for a digital only service ranging between £695 and £1500 (and that one was reduced from £2000 because we didn't want an album!)
