Hi dognary, I don't know what it is called, things keep popping up, I have a security warning which says "application cannot b executed. The file svchost.exe is infected. Do u want to activate your antivirus now?" and also a bubble popping up at bottom that says "windows Internet security" & another pop up saying "antivirus software alert which says my computer is being attacked by a virus.

  • I will echo the advice from member "closed" above, but hopefully can clarify some of the points:
    • Shut your computer down totally
    • Turn it back on again, you should see a boot screen for your computer manufacturer (eg. HP/Compaq/Dell). Once this screen disappears, start tapping the F8 key
    • You should get a menu, one of the options will be "Safe mode with networking". Using the arrow keys to select this options and hit enter.
    • The computer should say "safe mode" in the 4 corners. Logon to your computer as usual when you get to the login screen.
    • You should now be able to run Internet Explorer. Go to Google and search for something called Malwarebytes Anti-malware. I can't post a direct link, but download.com is a legitimate site! It's permanently in the top 10 list on the right of the page.
    • Once you've downloaded it, run the installer. At the end, leave the 2 tickboxes ticked for "update" and "launch".
    • Run a full scan, it may take 10 minutes, it may take 30 minutes, do not interrupt it. Once the scan has finished click the "Show Resuts" button.
    • Every item it has found will be ticked, just click the "Remove Selected" button and you will see a progress bar go across. The software will tell you when it has finished cleaning up, allow it to reboot the computer.
    • Once the computer has booted normally, run Internet Explorer again and see what happens!

If it doesn't work or any of these steps aren't clear, please feel free to ask for clarification!

  • Think it's just an adaption of that, a newer version if you will. Just follow the advice above and you should be fine, MBAM is brilliant.
