Tyre/ wheel tracking

What is the issue? What car? How much tread on each tyre? You need to change the tyres before getting tracking done.
I thought the tracking was out on my car as it was pulling to the left and tramlining badly. It was in fact the Pirelli tyres fitted to it which had a strange tread pattern which meant the edges wore, this wear caused serious handling problems and due to the uneven wear the tyre wasn't sitting correctly on the road causing more localised wear. I had the tyres replaced for another brand, tracking was not touched and the handling returned to normal and the new tyres wore evenly before being replaced about a month ago.0 -
Easy
To see which wheel is out (fronts only) point the steering wheel straight ahead.
Look at the wheels, one will probably be straight and the other will be pointing outwards/inwards. Thats the one you adjust
Jack car
Unbolt wheel
Look for this behind the disc brakes (looks dif on all cars though)
Unbolt the bolt that you can see in the pic and the whole arm should drop.
Just behind the track rod end (black in the pic) is a locking nut, release that and the whole track rod end will then turn clockwise/anti clockwise. (this track rod end has a dif method though)
Adjust it one turn at a time. Clockwise will turn the wheel out, Anti clockwise will turn the wheel in
One turn at a time. If you need more than 2-3 turns then the inner tie arm could be bent and need replacing
Not the most accurate way of measuring it then.
Probably not that accurate if you split the ball joint and do it with one side jacked up either.0 -

It's a golf and I've just had the tyres replaced. The garage where they were replaced said that the last lot had worn unevenly and suggested I get them tracked. I just wanted to make sure that they weren't overcharging me for the pleasure. to be fair to them though they are pretty good about these type of things. I'll take it in tomorrow
Thanks for your help everyone.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0
