Ground Source Heat Pumps

I came home this evening to find a red flashing light (first one since installation), DHW at 32c and acknowledging the alarm results in another one as soon as the restart timer reaches zero. I sense a call to the supplier to see what out of warranty options there are.
Alarm MB1 Compr. Circ. Switch.
Motor circuit switch for compr has triggered.
Possible cause.
* The set value is too low.
* Compressor error.
* Overload on power line.
* Temporarily (sic) error.
Hi Patrol,
Have you tried flicking the breaker on the breaker panel within the heat pump back on? It's the round one I think that will have gone. Maybe just a temporary blip? Sorry if this is teaching you to suck eggs.

Did you get your mixer valve fitted Beardy?
Would be interesting to see how the readings went.
Hi lovesgshp,
I had the mixer valve fitted yesterday. The temps in the UFH have definitely dropped significantly (curve 3 for the UFH and curve 5 for the rads now) and the rad temp is now a lot higher as well, so that's all good.
Only problem I've got is there is a constant GT8/GT9 Delta alarm, and the 2 temps are about 15degC apart (GT8 53.4, GT9 38.3). I upped the P1 pump to 3 this morning, but it's not helped, so I need to have a play tomorrow evening (can't do anything tonight), open up the rads some more, and check the filter in case there's a bit of gunk from the fitting in there. Checked back in the StatLink logs and the delta was about 6degC before the mixer was fitted.
If I can't sort it easily I'll ask ICE to come back to have a look, but I suspect opening the rads up more will sort it.0 -
Hi Patrol.
Check what Beardy has said with the reset of the MB1 switch.As Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0 -
Hi Beardy.
Yes, it could be debris in the filter. 11C is the max before the alarm starts cutting in.
As you say, open up the rads and it should increase the flow through the pump.As Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0 -
Thanks Beardy, I checked the other trips but missed the 0/1 on that one. Have tried resetting but it trips again 15 seconds after pump activates.0

Patrol.
Isolate the pump completely, reset the switch, then see if it trips again.As Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0 -
Patrol.
If the reset does not work, then I suggest you go to additional heat only in the service installer menu (5.4). This will exclude the compressor, but you will still have heating and hot water.As Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0 -
It still trips, not sure what you mean by isolate - I switched everything off, reset it and then switched it all back on but don't know if you mean options in menu 5 or turn all the other electrics in the house off instead.
Was going to tough it out for the night but the 5.4 setting is more tempting than having my wife and daughter getting cold. Knew there was a setting for that but hadn't got round to looking for it. Thanks.0 -

I've opened up some rads more fully this morning, and now getting HTF delta of approx 22degC (without add. heat kicking in yet)! Not had chance to check the filter yet. I've let ICE know, and will check the filter this evening.
Edit: Should I increase the P2 pump to 3 as well as the P1 pump? Not sure what setting P2 is on at the moment.0 -
Hi Guys.
Patrol.
You may just have a faulty MB1 switch, or a bad connection to the compressor. It is something that needs to be checked by a electrician or the installer. I hope that going into 5.4 kept you warm and with hot water.
Sorry for the confusion about isolating the pump, it should have its own isolator, so no need to turn all the house off!!
Beardy.
You have probably got a 2nd circulating pump for the radiator system. What you need to do is turn that to maximum speed and reduce P1 back to its previous setting. Let me know how the deltas change. It is quite possible that you need to balance the flow through the rads after the mixing valve has been fitted.
Leave P2 as it is at the moment.
Apologies for the late replies, but have been out most of the morning.As Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0
