Butlins are a brand of Bourne Leisure - they're a very very successful group that took over Holimarine, warners, haven and also Butlins. They are big, but that's because they are very good at what they do, on-site prices are on a par with high-street, and they know their customers like no other company I know.

I mention this as they will run all kinds of offers and discounts on the brochure price (similar to the "rack rate" for hotel rooms - nobody pays it but it is the price on paper for all official purposes), and you will get deals with and without your clubcard vouchers. Sometimes one deal will beat another, that's what happens when prices are volatile to try to maximise bookings revenue. I suggest changing your points back into points and getting a carful of nice munch to take on the best cash deal you find for Butlins - the resorts have come a long way since hi-de-hi, and are slowly but surely moving to take some of the centerparcs crowd!

I recall a company I worked for had negotiated a 10% staff discount for a well known local independant electrical chain. We went in, found the TV we wanted, asked their best price (no haggling done, just an upfront question)

of course you are haggling if you ask for the 'best price' - most people would just ask for the 'price', or in most cases, just take the pricetag stuck to the item, as being the price - one you start asking them for a price that is different to what is being advertised, then you are into the realms of haggling

many of the Clubcard reward vouchers work like the Butlins ones. They are only really worth it if you can pay in full.

E.g. I can go to Cafe Rouge and have a meal for two costing £15 each. I can pay £30 cash or pay in full the cash equivalent of £10 in converted points. i.e. one third the price. However I can often get a BOGOF from the websites so really the cash price of the meal is only £15 so only a 5 pound saving and not combinable with points.although still a saving. And if I couldn't pay the full price in points then I might even lose out.

It is just multiplied up with a holiday.

More of a con is the fact that is costs £1240 or even £900 to go to Butlins!

Absolutely. We're going to the South of France for 10 nights in a luxury caravan in June for £430. That's with Siblu, which you can book with Tesco vouchers, and their internet prices are the price you pay with vouchers.

We went last year, in August, too. Great value.

Sorry, I missed part of my post off last night. The TV we were looking at was a brand new model which they didn't have on the shop floor. We asked if they stocked it and when they said yes we asked their best price on it. After mentioning the staff discount they informed us that they could only discount the advertised price which in their catalogue or price book or whatever you call it!

Apologies but I'm down with the lurgy and my brain isn't working :o

Park Resorts used to let you book with offers using Clubcard, however they stopped that in 2009

It costs me an extra £100 for our holiday as you don't get the early booking discount but the way i look at it , its still a free holiday that i didn't have to fork out £450 on

Its not a con you just need to read the terms and conditions where it states that conditions apply and If I remember correctly both butlins and tesco state that they cannot be used with other offers. I have taken my kids there twice with the tesco vouchers and was very happy.

T&Cs are on Tesco Clubcard website and always have been. 7th bulletpoint below 'THINGS TO REMEMBER'.

    Has always been the same.

    Misuse of the word 'con'.

  • I do wish normally sensible people would understand what the word CON actually means and not just use it because they fail time and time again to read things properly.

We have used our points for our last 5 Butlins holidays. It states that you have to pay the brochure price and the brochure price is always shown on the screen. We have even had free half board option with points too.

You need to check whether it is worth using them. Nearer the date you want to go the price will go down and I've always found the prices the same as in the brochure. I don't think the word con is applicable tbh, more that you did not read, or check, the price. You should have called for a price before getting your vouchers.

I think we will pay for it this year though as vouchers do not seem to be worth as much. Might save them for flights instead.
