Cancelling with Admiral to go with .... Admiral. HOW on this?

Admiral seem to auto renew, so if you want to cancel, you need to manually do it. Whether this is common practice amongst 99% of insurers is however, irrelevant.
They quoted me £650. After much online quoting & tweaking, the cheapest i can get a quote is £550 ......... with Admiral (yes, with the SAME details).
If i go through Quidco, then i bag £35 cashback, so naturally i want to do this instead of just calling the renewals line & giving them my new quote ref.
I've looked for a cancellation number, but they typically don't seem to advertise it very well (or i'm just blind).
Also, i DON'T want to cancel it early, i just don't want it to renew - so will i receive a charge?
Would i need to provide proof of my NCDs? As i'm cancelling, yet going with them again.
Just don't know how to be going about the cancelling the auto-renewal.

Phone them up, use any 0800 number they advertise, tell them you don't want to renew, put it in writing.
Take out the new policy and treat it as a new company.0 -
Cheers.
I'm assuming i'll need to provide them with proof of my my NCDs, even though i'm not shifting companies?
One thing i noticed on their site though, is that it seems that the policy has to be bought THAT DAY. My policy renews 19 Jan, so i'd like to get it sorted now, for then, but there doesn't appear to be the option to do this on the site.
I have plans on the 18th which i'd need to cut short, just to get home in time to make the call. Is there a way around this or is it tough luck?0 -
Any of you been able to buy a policy to begin from x-date in the future?0
-
When I took out my Admiral policy in March 2010, i was buying a car and so had the date of the insurance to be the same as the car collection date in the future. So Admiral should be able to do this for you.
Mine is up for renewal this month... did Admiral automatically send you a letter confirming the renewal amount prior to the expiry of your insurance? Or did you have to call to get the quote?
I've had an excellent quote from Aviva and they will also allow purchasing for a future start date....0 -
Just phone the renewals department (there's a number on the letter) and tell them you've found it cheaper as a new customer and want that price.0
-
Yeah they sent me the renewal letter.
Also, if i call the renewals then it'll not be going through Quidco will it?? & i'll lose out on £35 cashback.0 -
Unfortunately, not only were Aviva cheaper than Admiral for me... but I can get an additional £70 cash back through topcashback. I get less excess and save the equivalent of £10/month on my policy with Aviva compare to Admiral.0

This is well worth a try. When I got my renewal letter from Admiral, I did my usual trawl of the internet and got a quote almost £200 cheaper with elephant.co.uk. I phoned Admiral renewals to tell them I didn't want to renew and the operative said she could match the lower price as elephant.co.uk is owned by Admiral. I am sure they would do this - or at least try to price match any lower quote.Just phone the renewals department (there's a number on the letter) and tell them you've found it cheaper as a new customer and want that price.0 -
ditto... Its worth moving insurers for a few hundred but when you're talking pennies for some non guaranteed cashback that Admiral are probably within their right to not pay its not worth it. (Defo ring them and get them to match the new customer deal though)0
