the boiler is a glowworm 15hxiit does the heating and hot water (tank)
the noise occurs as the boiler reaches its temperature plateau when heating OR hot water circuit is being used.
the noise is not sudden or especially loud, it is just the usual running noise but a little louder.
other than this everything seems normal.
my thoughts are either the fan bearings are going or there is a restriction in the heat ex ?????
ideas on the back of a post card please......

If you mean that the noise is when the boiler is running on full power, then it will be crud sitting in the bottom of the heat exchanger. The sound would be more of a low vibration/rumble though.

This is quite a common thing for this Giannoni HE. The Hxi being open vent is affected more sometimes, as the HE can act as a sump on a dirty system.

Boiler needs HE flushing out and possibly the rest of the system flushing.

I thought there would be crud in the heat ex but how can I flush this out ?
can I put a filter inline tostop this happening again ?

Flushing this out can be a bit awkward, so I would suggest getting someone in to flush it out, and check whether the whole system needs flushing.

You could always have something like a Magnaclean or Fernox TF1 fitted in the boiler return to help protect it in the future.

Mine is doing something similar. It is a Baxi solo 2. It is more of a vibration sound I would say. It works perfectly ok, the rads are hot as is the water.

It only makes this sound when it is up to temperature and the boiler cuts out.

A baxi solo 2 would be a different scenario to the OP's boiler as they are completely different heat exchangers

what sort of crud would you say it is likely to be in my HX? scale or iron based crud?

a potted history: the system was repeatedly filled and flushed each time i replaced the 10 rads (1 at a time) protected inbetween times with inhibitor and then run with sentinel restorer for a while, never was there any crud in the system and the water always ran clear.
this was flushed out by powerflush (also clear) prior to the boiler being installed about 5 years ago when the system was dosed with more inhibitor ........ the powerflush was a requirement of the installation as per the manufacturers guidelines....

if there is crud where can it have come from, the system seems to work fine but if there is crud in there how do I get it out ????
