Roger Waters pre-sale tickets

Uncle_Cuddles wrote:The Wall tour lost loads of money. It was one of the most expensive shows ever put on. They basically built a huge wall and demolished it at the end, and there were giant puppets, hydraulic stages, and all the usual Pink Floyd lights and lasers. Richard Wright (Pink Floyd's keyboard player and founder member) fell out with Roger and quit/was fired after The Wall was released. He toured out of contractual commitments but was paid a salary for the tour and did not have to pay for the cost of the tour, so he was the only one to make any money out of it.
Yer that's the one I was on about, couldn't remember the exact details but I do recall hearing that Wright was the only one to make any money. Not surprising when you look at the amount of equipment they had to take everywhere with them0 -

"....the three other band members hatched a plan: they would ask David Gilmour to join the group to cover lead guitar and vocals while their sick colleague could do what he wanted, so long as he stood onstage.
..
Four gigs followed in the next fortnight, with Barrett contributing little. He looks happy enough in a cine-clip from the time, joining in with the lads for a tap-dance in a dressing-room. 'But in reality,' says Gilmour, 'he was rather pathetic.' On the day of the fifth gig the others were driving south from a business meeting in central London. As they drove, one of them - no one remembers who - asked, 'Shall we pick up Syd?' 'Fsck it,' said the others. 'Let's not bother.' Barrett, who probably didn't notice that night, would never work again with the band that he had crafted in his image.
..
However, Barrett still had the band's schedule. Waters remembers him turning up with his guitar at 'an Imperial College gig, I think, and he had to be very firmly told that he wasn't coming on stage with us'. At the Middle Earth, wearing all his Chelsea threads, he positioned himself in front of the low stage and stared at Gilmour throughout his performance. Now he had to watch his old college friend playing his licks. Undoubtedly, he felt hurt by this treatment."
Sounds just like he left.
Yes, waters dedicated a lot to syd - because he screwed him over.
Gilmour also felt guilty, which is in part why he produced The Madcap Laughs/Barrett.
He was a man suffering mental illness, and instead of his "friends" supporting him they shafted him.
His leaving volunatarily is the tripe, I'm afraid.ॐ Signature Removed by Someones Mum. ॐ0 -
Actually IMHO Roger is true genius.....he's penned most of Floyd's post-60s songs & for all his solo work hasn't been as populist as his Floyd stuff some of it is breathtaking (Amused to Death for one).
What sticks in my throat is being asked to spunk up £50 to see an old bloke on stage (who isn't exactly gifted with stage presence), being backed up by a pseudo-floyd tribute band...& jack !!!!!! in the way of props/effects to feel that there's some kind of special production going on! Case in point...Hyde Park in the summer - half way through Roger's first half, a roadie lobs a helium filled plastic spaceman that then flits around the stage - WOW.....cutting edge stuff. The concert was very good, but only cos it was free (cos I bought two tickets for £26, then sold one for £25 & got two free Mars bars worth £1 that they were handing out as the crowd left...therefore total cost = nowt!) ....I'd have been well miffed if I'd spunked the ticket face value of £45 to see a tiny figure on stage or watch him on a big screen....what's the point? The crowd simply go home uncomfortably numb from the cost.0 -

He wasn't forced out though. He was in too poor a shape to continue (this being a widely acknowledged fact). He was not screwed over by Waters, he was replaced by the band as a whole because of his inability to continue. Who can honestly say why Gilmour helped produce The Madcap Laughs? Only Gilmour can for any certainty.
I never said that he left voluntarily, I merely pointed out that he wasn't really forced out by waters.
I would love to know where half of the "facts" in that article came from i.e. "Should we pick up Syd?' 'Fsck it,' said the others. 'Let's not bother."0
