Tesco Sim-only deal question

A friend of mine said that she went over her minutes (by around £20 so a fair amount) on her £10, 500 mins, Unlimited texts/data package and that her phone was prevented from not only making calls but also from sending texts and data.
I'm thinking about getting this contract but has this every happened to anyone else? Because that may put me off.

I would suggest your friend phones Tesco Mobile customer service and see if there is a fail safe limit on her account. If she's on a £10 per month contract and she's spent £20 above that, Tesco may have halted her service to prevent her incurring more charges in case she wasn't aware. I know that some operators do this so you don't end up with a massive bill which you didn't know about.
£20 on call charges over the £10 monthly amount is a lot of extra calls!0 -
I have had this problem. Their rule is that if you incur charges that are more than 3 times your monthly payment your phone is temporarily stopped. You can make a one off top up, then phone customer services and they can reset your facilities. From a £10 a month contract, I would expect you to reach £30 before being stopped, but if your next payment is due soon that may explain it.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. This just shows that the network can never get it right for all people if they have an either/or policy.
You wouldn't want this type of contract if they cut you off when you go over, but other threads complain bitterly when the networks didn't stop the service when they went over !!
If, as silvercar says, they give you a 200% excess before they cut you off, then it seems that they are taking a sensible middle road. But not everyone will agree, unfortunately.
So if they can, why not the other networks, particularly as Tesco don't actually have their own network?0 -
Cool, I guess that seems reasonable. I don't get excessively overboard with my minutes anyway so I should be ok.0
