HEELLLP!!!! - MY PC FREEZES EVERY TIME I'M ON THE NET

Hi, a while back i installed a wireless system in my house, i have talktalk 2mb broadband and use a EDIMAX wireless router. On my pc i have an edimax usb wifi receiver. Now whenever i am accessing a heavy graphics or sometimes even just plain text page(also when downloading files 40mb+ ) my pc freezes - no response to k/b or mouse:mad: and i always have to restart. I have a wifi enabled laptop and i can surf on that w/out lockups. I have tried firefox IE and opera and pc freezes on all.

WHAT CAN I DOOOO

Plz help

So the main difference to your PCs access, in comparison to your wireless laptop, is the usb wireless dongle. This might be my first area of investigation. Can you try this dongle in your laptop (and disable its built in wireless) just to try and recreate the same problem on a different machine. Or better still, try a diff usb dongle on the troublesome PC? Try and discount a few obvious things, like this, if you can...

:wave:If someone helps, say thanks, doesn't take much effort really
  • This sometimes happens to me and I press "control, alt & delete" task manager comes up and I highlight the Internet service provider. Task manager says the ISP is not responding and invites me to end task then relaunches ISP. Well it does not happen often and I think that is the order of events - it is that or something very like it.
  • Due to the fact that the k/b and mouse become unresponsible - I CANNOT CNTRL ALT DEL!! - will try the dongle on lappytoppy.

    Cheers:beer:

Its most likely to be your usb dongles drivers that are causing it - did it happen before it was installed? If you connect the router to the pc without dongle connected hard-wired i.e non-wireless using ethernet cable does it still happen? If it does it wont be the usb dongle and could be a virus or spyware as mentioned above.
