A Moral Dilema - Wickes Price Match

Right the Mrs is set on doing the kitchen...trailed round them on and found one in Wickes. She is also set on a Rangemaster oven _pale_.

In the curry's sale the one we were after is on for £1149 compared to the £1592 Wickes were offering. We fulfilled all the criteria stated...but Wickes wouldn't match the price as they said they'd lose money on it (advertising states matched +10%). In the small print it states managers decision if final. Actually the manager of the store was willing to match it but couldn't get it authorised from his Area Manager.

Instead he offered me extra discount to match the price but not the 10%. They've then refunded a cheque for £433 which is the difference between Curry's and Wickes.

My Dilema is....should I cash the cheque then cancel the cooker from Wickes anyway and buy from Curry's. Personally my head says I should, mainly to teach them a lesson and not let these companies get away with false advertising!...but my heart knows that the rep at Wickes who has been great will get hammered on her commission!!

What do you people think?

Two wrongs don't make a right!

You are getting the stove at the price you want so stick with them.

You won't teach Wickes anything by canceling the order, just upset the rep and make her less willing to help other people in the future. Contact Trading Standards and complain about them not sticking to their advert.

I doubt very much that they will let you cancel the order for the full value once you have cashed the cheque! They would just refund you £1149 which is the £1592 minus the refund of £433!

It sounds like the staff at Wickes have bent over backwards to help you, so personally I don't think I could do it. I tend to think that karma has a way of working itself and something would go wrong with my new kitchen's deliveries/intallation etc to bite me in the bum for it! However, you have to do what feels right for you. Sounds like you've got a great deal on the kitchen anyway, well done.

Hi - I would go ahead with order, have kitchen delivered and once happy with it all, write a letter to Head Office Customer Services. You will have received your kitchen, the girl will have been paid her commission and if you get anything out of them, that's even better - as Mojisola says, you have after all got the total kitchen at the price you wanted.

If it were me, I would of course forget to send the letter!!!!:rotfl::rotfl:
