This has some lovely ideas on here - even if you adapt it to your budget it can be done cheaply, but gives some lovely ideas on how to even decorate water bottles to look pretty!

ships ahoy, i made signs for different parts of the ship out of cardboard made to look like broken wooden signs, starboard, stern , portside and bow, when this is called out they run to the part of the ship you called then you have different things that you call out
One person is the Captain who calls out the ordersand the children have to follow. Start with a few instructions and add more on as the children get to know the rules.

    Other calls include:

Captain aboard - stand to attention
Scrub the deck - squat and scrub deck
Hoist the sail - pull from above head to feet
Climb the ladder - pretend to climb ladder
Pull the anchor - pull side to side
Dig for treasure - action of digging
Sharks - have to run to any side of boat.
Man the row boats - get in line of 2-4 and row
Land Ahoy - look for land
Seagulls - run and flap wings

For fun and plenty of laughs, change the speed to which you give the calls.

the children that were last to a part of the ship were sent into exile

sharks- One child is the shark and the other children stand at one end of the area and try to run back and forth past the “shark” without being caught. If they are caught then they too become a shark and continue to try and catch the others as a shoal. The last child uncaught by the sharks is the winner.

Ooh, both of these look like great fun! I wonder if I'd have enough time to fit them in DS's party!

One of my friends on facebook was doing a Nursery Rhyme themed party for her daughter last year - all children had to dress up as a nursery rhyme character and all the food was relating to nursery rhymes:
    Jam Tarts (Queen of hearts)
    Bread and honey sandwiches
Curds & Way (you could use icecream!)

I can't remember the other food things right now, and can't find the list she made, but you get the idea!!

  • Aargh! DS handed out his party invitations today at school, and got back an invitation from one of his invitees to another party straight after his, i.e. DS' party is 1-2.45 and the other party is 3-4.45! I suppose it could be worse - they could be at exactly the same time - and at least any other kids who've been invited to both could just about feasibly do both (it's about a 15 minute drive between the two), but it's not so easy for DS, even if he wants to do another party straight after his own, since I'm the only one who can drive and I'm also going to have to tidy up etc.!

And there I was thinking I'd be safe from clashes since I thought if anyone else had booked a party for that day they'd have been more organised than me and got the invitations out ages ago! *sighs*

I have 2 childrens birthdays to organise - DS will be 9 in March, and DD will be 4 in May, and I'd like to do both on a budget... I can get quite carried away and I really must stop :D

DS is having a STIG (Top Gear) theme so I've been busy hunting for decorating ideas. I will buy cheap some chequered flag design plates and cups but other than that I want to make/create stuff. So far I've designed his invites which only took me 15 minutes (and was much cheaper than buying them!!!):

Also on my list of makes is:

    Straw toppers
    Cupcake toppers/Flags
    Bunting
    Birthday banner

For DD birthday in May we're having a fairies and elves party - lots of pinks, lilacs, and sparkly things i think :T

Cupcake bar always goes down well too - they love decoarting and sprinkling :) and they can take them home at the end.

That sounds so lovely :D For crafts - what about making paper plate or cardboard teddy bear masks that they can colour and decorate?
