thought it might be an idea to have a thread dedicated just for childrens parties, lets keep all idea`s together
to include things like : THEMES, COLOUR & DECOR, FOOD, INVITATONS, PARTY BAGS,CAKES, ENTERTAINERS (BOOKED OR DO YOURSELF) ETC
we could add useful links, craft ideas for making own decoations, cake etc.
okay so some theme idea`s :
PIRATES
PRINCESS
BEACH
COWBOYS & INDIANS
MEDEVAL (KNIGHTS & CASTLES)
FAIRIES
RACING CARS
ANIMALS
TRUCKS
FARM
INSECTS & BUGS (UGLY BUG BALL)
FANCY DRESS
CRAFT PARTY
HAIR PARTY
MAKE UP/NAIL ART PARTY
ALICE IN WONERLAND
SPORT
HARRY POTTER OR WIZARDS & WITCHES
CHEERLEADER PARTY (MAKE POM POMS ETC)
STARWARS
THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE
i have a few parties to plan for this year, not sure whether they will be at hired venues ie local hall or just little tea parties at home, but i am hoping to make some of the decorations and be inventive with the food, it can be an expensive time be it we all help each other with idea`s and plan in advance it will all help.:D

Great idea for a thread. Hawkins Bazaar has a sale on at the moment with lots of things 20p - £5.00 (the cheaper end being ideal for party bags and then lots of things to take as presents.

When my grand daughter turned 4 last year, my daughter-in-law had some people come over to their house to do face painting and tattoos. The kids loved it.0

Good idea, betterlife - thanks!
I will try and do a big post on my son's pirate party soon!I'm broke, not poor. Poor sounds permanent, broke can be fixed. (Thoroughly Modern Millie)

When DS was 3 or 4, one of the children's granddad owned a pub and the child's mum got the run of the pub for a couple of hours for the party. The kiddies had a proper disco with the whole works, as well as face painting and party games.
I still have the mum's contact number in my phone because I definitely fancy that at some point in the future, at which point I'll probably embarrass DS with my boogieing on the dancefloorKeep calm and carry on0 -
my eldest has had a pamper party where her and her friends just did each others hair and make up, this year she had a sleepover combined with a wii danceathon which was fantastic and even i joined in. my youngest has had craft parties i have just gone to tescos or poundland and picked up bits to make masks/head bands anything they can take home with them. we have had themed parties i did a dora when when youngest was little and the stuff was expensive so we coloured in and cut out piccies and stuck them a round made a banner and had balloons that matched the colour scheme. i also did a HSM one once where my girls made pom poms as decs and we decorated the house in red and white and coloured matched the cups and plates etc. i think the themed party ranges are very expensive but they can be worked around easily and adapted to suit cost:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

I had a pirate party last year for ds who was 5.
Hired the local village hall, did pizzas in the oven along with curly fries, sausage rolls and a huge galion cake made by the local baker:)
Had a bouncy castle and 5 swing cars, but the best thing of the day was getting my 2 brothers to dress up as pirates, 1 good, 1 bad, the good one came in carrying a chest filled with those medals you get in wilko as treasure, the bad pirate ran in, stole it and pegged it down the field, at which point the good pirate pulled out 30 inflatable swords, gave one to each child and dent them after the treasure!
The photos still make my son chuckle seeing the bad pirate on the floor being beaten up ny kids!
The Children loved the thrill of the chase, and being rewarded with 'treasure' afterwards!

I did my 4 year old son a pirate themed party last year and it was a huge hit. These Treasure chest and coins proved really popular with the kids. I put there loot bags inside, popped it on a table and put the coins around the chest and they loved going over and playing with the coins. I found it was very easy to find lots of pirate themed party goodies for decorations and party bags.

Please don’t let the festivities and cold weather prevent you from giving them the ultimate gift… give blood.0 -
we also had a pirate party and did something similar with my older son and his friends did a pirate type pantomime which had 30 7yr old screaming out "he's behind you" it was all done to pirates of the caribbean music and lots of stage fighting with swords and ended up with the bad pirate tied up and having ketchup squirted all over him..
we also played the following games
cannon ball pop- we bought black baloons from ebay and put small chews in them then blew them up, most of the kids went nuts with that
pirate pinanta with a bought pirate chest
treasure hunt, with loads of chocolate coins and bead necklaces
catch a pirate- this involved one of my sons friends standing up one end of the garden and the children creeping up on him, he would turn round and if he saw you move you had to go back to the beginning
ships ahoy, i made signs for different parts of the ship out of cardboard made to look like broken wooden signs, starboard, stern , portside and bow, when this is called out they run to the part of the ship you called then you have different things that you call out
One person is the Captain who calls out the ordersand the children have to follow. Start with a few instructions and add more on as the children get to know the rules.
Other calls include:
Captain aboard - stand to attention
Scrub the deck - squat and scrub deck
Hoist the sail - pull from above head to feet
Climb the ladder - pretend to climb ladder
Pull the anchor - pull side to side
Dig for treasure - action of digging
Sharks - have to run to any side of boat.
Man the row boats - get in line of 2-4 and row
Land Ahoy - look for land
Seagulls - run and flap wings
For fun and plenty of laughs, change the speed to which you give the calls.
the children that were last to a part of the ship were sent into exile
sharks- One child is the shark and the other children stand at one end of the area and try to run back and forth past the “shark” without being caught. If they are caught then they too become a shark and continue to try and catch the others as a shoal. The last child uncaught by the sharks is the winner.
walk the plank- old plank of wood they threw a dice and odd numbers had a forfiet, 1 eyes closed 3 walk backwards 5 hands behind your back
we gave empty treasure bags(black party bags with pink or blue skull stickers on and childs name) at the beginning of the party and you had to fill it up as you went along and i made a huge treasure chest to keep it in
we renamed a lot of the food to disgusting things, and the invites we printed a treasure map and then did a some old fashioned writing in pirate speak then tore the edges and rubbed teabags on them, rolled them up and tied them with black ribbon and all the adults dressed up as pirates, including my mum
the whole thing was total madness and extremely noisy but very good fun0 -
fantastic idea for a new thread
I love doing my DS birthday parties. 2 years ago he had a Diego theme and last year it was Toy story - this year can't wait - were having a Cars theme. The websites I use for ideas are;

I will keep following this thread as I love new ideas. Our parties always include homemade pinatas and of course pass the parcel0
