Hi, my pc has been playing up for a few months, crashing, error screen, etc. For the past few weeks I haven't been able to use the pc at all.
I can't open safe mode either, pressing f8 does nothing. Pressed f11 & did the full system restore, but still no change.
I have the xp disc so decided to wipe my pc & start again but it won't load that either. Please help.

you may have to go into the BIOS and change the boot order to the CD drive first....usually F2 or DEL when you power up the machine........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Tried that earlier & it changed to a plain black screen, after 20mins like this I tried again & again blank screen. I have just done it again & will check it in the morning, hopefully something will have loaded by then.0

so, it's set to boot from the CD drive first, but it's not reading the XP CD ?? Is that what you mean ??......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I pressed f2 and it bought up a box with 5 boot options I selected the cd option. It then changed to a blank screen & stayed blank.
My pc knowledge is very basic.0 -
when you do F2 and get the box up, put the XP cd in the drive then, BEFORE you select the CD drive from the list...it sounds like you're telling the pc to boot from the CD drive but without the CD inserted......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Yes full restore. It would get to the windows loading screen the crash to blue error screen. I can't remember what exactly the error said, it was a few weeks ago.0

how about trying to boot Puppy Linux from a USB stick?? May give you chance to check if all your hardware is in good order before proceeding..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

When I checked pc after leaving on over night it said inf file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing status 8192 setup cannot continue press any key to exit.
I turned pc off & on again and for the 1st time in weeks windows has loaded.
I am just going to load a virus checker via USB.
Edit: avast installed and running, I'm out till after 3pm so will update when I get back.0
