i also have bg home-care, last year my boiler cut out several times but was easy to reset, however i called bg and asked them to take a look, i was told it was a motherboard that was faulty and was covered under policy...result, until it did it again in December, had got engineer out who opened my boiler and told me it was due to sludge and needed a power flush £750 and if i didn't get it done they would no longer fix my boiler, scare tactics???? my boiler cuts out but when resets house heats up great and so does hot water.. its a combi boiler any help would be great before they come

Ditch BG, quick and get a local gas man to sort things out.0

There is a lot of misconceptions regarding power flushing which get people confused, you can get a loads of information on the subject from the power flush association website.
I agree with johnnyhc, private plumbers have more time to spend on your system and get to know it well. Using a large company means you never see the same plumber and they never know your system or system history fully.0 -
Just search for 'BG+powerflush' on here and you will get the idea.
It's their standard panacea for all boiler ills-and very overpriced. No free lunch, and no free laptop

only water based parts arent covered....Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -
BG will fix/replace the first part affected by sludge for free under your contract, but further sludge related problems become chargeable unless you take some preventative measures, such as a powerflush and/or magnabooster. And I can see why they do it as I change many parts that are packed full of muck, week after week.
One thing to mention about BG powerflushes - they are expensive but they are a full 8 hour mechanical flush which is guaranteed for the lifetime of the boiler. I've not heard of other companies willing to re-flush for free.
And as the previous poster said, this only relates to water components.0
