Actually, I'm not such a 'newbie' to this - more that I'm returning after a natural break. In fact, I was a regular for a few months about a year ago and I was forced into making myself known anyway when the stores I used became totally flagrant in their disregard for a particular kind of overcharging. You may recall the kind with packs of meat with big sels that only said £x.xx, when what they omitted to mention was that it was actually per kg, and often the actual pack price was more than that because it contained more than a kilo. Well, since they refused to entertain the r&r - and more importantly refused to accept that the pricing was misleading, my crusade at the time was to put them in their place - with the help of TS.

I think you'll find it quite rare these days to find the 'per kg' text missing from those labels - although I did find it happen once a few months back - that time a different manager STILL didn't accept the error, but quickly removed the offending label anyway and just scarpered! I didn't have it in me to fight back at the time...but I think I do now - and already have - in the way that we love best!

As an amusing and ironic twist, it is almost exactly a year now - and I have just recently picked up some of the very same 'freezer pack' Sirloin Steaks as I did last year, except that this time it was because they screwed up on the 'per kg' price. (I was worried when I took the action that it might reduce the scope for finding misprices - but oh, how wrong I was!)

In fact, I have sometimes gone out with a 'shopping list' - but more often than not I haven't actually used it. It has just been easier - and more fun - to check the meat products one by one and find a likely overcharge that might not 'come off at the till'. I think I have failed to find a misprice this way in only about 1 in 8 visits.

Even after my brash words I decided to take a step back today and didn't use the clubcard a couple of times. (What a wuss!)

I guess it's to do with wotsisname's (Maslow's) pyramid of needs - food being near the bottom - and so I suppose I take your point on board more now that the freezer is once again full. It's like my partner says to me - "don't go shopping when you're hungry!".

Well it was over on the 'ethics' of r&r thread so I think that there was certainly some devil's advocate provocation talk going on. Clearly, I have my own opinions and might post at greater length on there myself one day.

Again, thanks leadhead for responding and putting me back on track somewhat.

    Re you being a newbie

Your post above was timed at 01.26 am........at 12.24 am(an hour before your post) I edited that post with

Big Edit Just realised you have been here since Sept 05.....lack of posts led me to assume you were a relative newbie.....(apologies)

I did this as I saw a post on part 1 of this thread dated Sept 2005 from you, while I was searching for something with regards to another member, and quickly and honestly apologised, by way of the edit

Did you just choose to ignore my Big edit to state your previous action, or did you just take over an hour to write your post from first quoting mine.

I appreciate your thanks for "responding and putting you back on track", thats twice now I believe....but its much more appreciated if you hit the "thanks" button as well...............unless its an insincere thanks of course.

As for opinions......I try not to deal in opinions......its facts that should be broadcast on here......I got wrong for this in my earlier days....being abrupt, and while everybody is welcome to show or discuss their opinions, someones opinion doesnt always get you that big RandR...........but the facts might.

I like to know the facts......Peoples opinions about the facts dont really matter.......

Unless of course I ask for an opinion, before I know the facts.............lol

I think we need to ban "poetry" from this thread...its starting to hurt a bit :D

It ain't poetry, it's christmas(and a free one at that!!).
  • I've been reading through the various Tesco threads the last few days and as a result a couple of R& R's made - thanks!

However, I just wanted to know whether it's always better to go thru the tills rather than the self scan tills - especially if looking to get an R& R on a high value good, or does it not make any difference?
I did see the question asked on one of the threads but couldn't see an answer posted. thx

Should not make any difference, most advocate a till rather than SS as then there can be no suggestion that you knew what you were doing/manipulated the over charge.

Depends on your cs' attitude, a nice cs probably wouldn't comment on the fact that you had used the self scan as it makes no difference to the fact that you have been overcharged and should receive a refund. However there are cs who will use any excuse to get out of refunding so personally I always go through a manned checkout.
