How should I answer this insurance question?

Options
In 2004, Hubby, as a named driver, was driving my car to his place of work and he hit a lorry and then a car hit him (insurance sorted end of story).

Now then, When I get a question on the various websites that say "Have you made a claim in the last 4 years?"

or

Have you had an accident or claim in the last 4 years

---Have I made a claim or has my Hubby?

He was the one who had the accident not me.
As he is a named person on my insurance....isn't it HIS claim?

You havent had the claim so you dont declare it against you. However, the question will be asked against the named drivers as well so you will need to declare it then.

Thanks......I get conflicting advice....when I phoned NU as I am with them at the moment (and for the accident) they said that as the policy is mine then I made a claim.

    Why should I be??

It is held against you on your policy but on the application it is declared under your husband. Its not conflicting advice its just where you declare it on a new application.

If you were not going to name him anymore on the policy, you would declare it under your name as it was your policy. Your husband also has to declare it if he has his own insurance.

It does seem a bit of a double whammy but that is the way the system works. As policy owner, its your responsbility. As driver, it was your husbands responsibility. So, it affects any vehicle you are both driving for the next 3 years. (or however long the new company requires to be told).

So does that mean that he will have to declare it on his bike insurance renewal?

Yes he should. There is usually a statement in there telling you to declare any points, accidents or claims, whether insured or not.

Be very careful in not admitting claims like this - the insurance company can and will use it to avoid paying any claims! Do you want to risk them voiding your insurance for the sake of a few £££s on your policy??

I never realized it was so....universal....for want of a better word.
Had no idea it would affect the bike as well as the car insurance.
    Thought it was different.

So what about house insurance.....does the accident with the car affect that too?

I thought I would ask NU as the policy is with them.
This was our conversation via Live Help and then copy and paste!:

ME: I need to know how to answer some of the questions in a policy I am looking at.
    Paul: what are the questions

ME: When it says vehicles does it include scooters as a vehicle?
Paul: its vehicles in general but you dont have to count the motorcycle
ME: the reason I ask is when I put in NO as the answer to no other vehicle it assumed I meant car
Paul: just put in 1 vehicle
ME: oh ok, so I can delete that entry.... thanks
    ME: next question
    Paul: thats ok

ME: I have a policy that my hubby is named on. He had an accident so a claim was put in.
    ME: I want to know
Paul: you put your husbands claim down on his details as its the drivers history we are interested in
ME: on the forms to fill in for "Have you made a claim in the last 4 years?"
ME: what do I put as I didnt have the accident, he did
Paul: you put it under his history not yours, its always the drivers history we are interested in
ME: so I say I have made No Claim even though the insurance policy was in my name

Paul: one moment please i will get that clarified for you ok
    ME: thank you
Paul: i have just had this clarified and it goes down on your husbands driving history and not your, as it was he who had the incidient

ME: I was so sure it would be me!!
Paul: Insurance is important and so are the correct details you did the right thing by conatcting us and getting it clarified ,you are welcome, is there any thing else i can help you with?
ME: No, cant think of anything right now.Thank you for helping me on that and say thank you from me to who helped you too!!

So NOW I have conflicting advice!! or have I misunderstood AGAIN!!

    Ho Hum.....any ideas
