Can I use my O2 BlackBerry SIM in an iPhone 3GS?
I have about 4 months left of my O2 contract, with a BlackBerry, giving me 500mins, 600 txts and unlimited internet for £15/month.
I have just bought a 2nd hand iPhone 3GS, and was wondering if I can simply pop the BlackBerry SIM in my iPhone and use it, along with the data allowance for 3G surfing etc? or is the unlimited internet only applicable if I am using a BlackBerry handset?
Can O2 tell which handset I am surfing/e-mailing with?
Thanks.
P.S.
Just looking at my O2 account online, it lists the following bolt-ons:
40% subscription discount - Active - No End Date
Q308 FOC Blackberry unlimited - Active - No End Date
Does this mean if I do nothing, I will continue to get my current plan at £15 (£25 -40% dscount bolt on), and free unlimited internet, but only on a BlackBerry? or am I able to use the Q308 boly on on an iPhone?

I thought it was only iPhone 4's that have micro SIMs0 -
O2 are a pain in that they differentiate between BB data and standard web data, so if you use the BB tariff sim in an iPhone you will be charged for web access. You can change the bolt-on from BB to an iPhone tariff or a generic smartphone web/data tariff.0

Thanks for that info. How odd...Wonder how and why O2 differentiate between 3G surfing on a BB, and 3G surfing on an iPhone
Anyway, I will see if I can change the BB data bolt on (which is free) to an iPhone data bolt on, but I don't know whether they will do it, and if they will, whether it will remain free.
I might be just as well to take out a new Simplicity SIM, which I think I am right in saying, works out at £15/month including internet use for an iPhone.0 -

that's not just o2, that is every network, it is because BB data is directed to BB servers and you need to pay to use thoes servers and the functions (eg BBM), the iphone because it just uses regular data (like every other non BB phone on the planet) you only require normal data.0 -
yes you can use it in an iphone 3gs no problem at all. You just need to change the APN (internet address) to wap.o2.co.uk. Don't change it to mobile.o2.co.uk which is the standard one for smartphones, or it might charge you.
I have tried my Blackberry on mobile.o2.co.uk and I wasn't charged, but I would think I have a newer tariff than yours and it doesn't discriminate. But I know for sure wap.o2.co.uk is free on Blackberry on any of the data bundles.
The settings are
APN: wap.o2.co.uk
User: o2wap
Pass: password
Here is the terms and conditions from PRE FEB 2010
BlackBerry Internet Solution from O2 Unlimited allows you to send and receive as many emails as you like, surf the web using the BlackBerry browser and via O2 Active WAP browsing, get unlimited use of Yahoo!® Messenger instant messaging and download satellite navigation services in the UK only. On non RIM manufactured devices (BlackBerry Connect devices) web browsing depends on the browser you use. Some devices use O2 Mobile Web which is charged at an additional £1.02 per MB. All usage must be for your private, personal and non-commercial purposes. You may not use your SIM Card:
This clause has been taken out of recent contracts it doesn't discriminate between o2 wap and o2 mobile. in tariffs from 20110 -

No they don't. They'll only charge you if you use it Iphone data APN details instead of the blackberry ones.
you need to do the following
(1)From the main screen of your iPhone, tap Settings > General > Network
(2)Tap ‘Cellular Data Network’.
(3)Under ‘Cellular Data’, tap APN and change ‘idata.o2.co.uk’ to ‘wap.o2.co.uk’ (‘o2’ needs to be written with a letter ‘o’, not a zero). You don’t need to change your username and password.
Ignore the APN box under ‘Visual Voicemail’ – it’s not available if you don’t have an iPhone Pay Monthly tariff.
(4)Under MMS, tap APN and change ‘idata.o2.co.uk’ to ‘wap.o2.co.uk’ (‘o2’ needs to be written with a letter ‘o’, not a zero). You don’t need to change your username and password.
(5)Turn your iPhone off and on again.0 -
You are right Toe-Jam. I can confirm they' will def charge you if you use the Iphone data APN details. Take it from me.:)0
