  • You have only just noticed this i take it?
Did you check when doing your underbonnet checks? (tell me you do check on regular occasions?)
So to put myself in Halfords shoes, i'd be asking you ...........

If you have only just noticed this, then you do not know when the covers came off?then you don't have any evidence that the covers were not fitted correctly?

Yes, the buzzing prompted me to investigate.

Of course I make regular under bonnet checks, although I've never needed to look at the back of the headlights.

As I said previously, the covers cannot come off on their own accord. They'd only come off if someone had fitted them incorrectly or not at all. The Halfords fitter was the last person to touch my headlights, no one else has remotely been near the area.

Let's assume the Halfords fitter had correctly placed the covers back on, secured with the clamps and such - well, 6 months or 6 years down the line, the covers would still be securely attached but by some magical force they aren't attached. Forgive me if my investigation skills aren't of top notch but I don't think someone has broken into my car, opened the bonnet and undone the headlight covers to let water in - since I haven't touched it.. and the ghosts of christmas past haven't touched it, I can only conclude that the fitter did not refit the covers correctly after replacing the bulb.

I may not be Sherlock, Miss Marple, Jessica Fletcher or Inspector Clouseau but this one doesn't require finger print matching to determine the culprit. :rotfl:

If you think Halfords are responsible, then you need to give Halfords a chance to put the problem right before asking another party to correct things.

If you ask another garage to correct things without consulting Halfords, they would be perfectly within their rights to refuse to pay the other garage's bill and would almost certainly do so.

That all sounds really good, but as another poster said earlier... can you prove that Halfords were the last people in there?

But you may need to be. How are you going to prove that Halfrauds were the last ones to touch your car? It will be your word against theirs.

I wish you luck, but I can only see one outcome here.

Yeah that's true but if I whine enough at them, they may attempt to resolve it as a gesture of good will (I hope). I'll try my luck tomorrow and if they don't budge, I'll just visit the garage I guess.

Gene Hunts says anyone could have undone them in the last 4 or 5 months. Prove otherwise.;)

You forgot Dr Sloan and Monk....:D

As others have said, try telling Halfords what you've told us. Unfortunately it's very much your word against theirs.

It's proving much difficult, and as I mention, there is a buzzing sound which is coming from the motor that adjusts the headlights. With the area being damp, no doubt water has gotten in to the motor.

The area is very small and my hands are somewhat large. :(

If the motor is adjusting the light at the time, thats what they do. If the motor isn't adjusting the light, its not the motor. If you've got HID lights fitted, it could be the transformer buzzing which whilst annoying, isn't a fault caused by anyone - they just do it.

And as others have said, how come its taken you 5 months to notice? Checked your oil, water, washer fluid, brake fluid in that time? When was the last time you bothered checking your lights worked or your tyres have tread on them?
  • i cant beleive you let halfrauds fit bulbs

i watched them trying to fit a stereo in a ford ka once and the lad basically took the whole dash out and then the steering wheel and got in a right mess
