Tesco SIM only and data

I am currently with Vodafone on a SIM only deal for £20 a month (900 mins, unlimited text and 500MB data).

I hardly use the data on my phone but I use it a lot with my laptop when out and about (using the data connection on my phone). I have never gone over the 500MB in the last year and my contract ends this month.

I looked at the current deal from Tesco for £10 per month (500 mins, unlimited text and unlimited data) but wondered if I could use the data in the same way - i.e., with my laptop.

The guy in the shop said no but I cannot find anywhere on the website which says the data is for phone use only.

Does anyone have any idea? Has anyone tried and succeeded or failed?

Cheers

There is no way (afaik) that the network will know if the data is being used for broswing using your phone or your laptop via your phone providing you have the correct APN setup for the connection.

Vodafone seem to be able to. My bill shows "WAP" and "Internet". The WAP bit is when I use the web on my phone and the Internet bit is using it as a modem for my laptop.

    Different APN's.

Your phone connects to your providors network via a specific APN - if your using your Laptop connected via Bluetooth for example the Network won't know if its your "phone browser" or "laptop browser" thats actually doing the viewing.

You just need to ensuire the connection is using the correct APN.

The selected APN will be availale in your connection settings.
