  • I have managed to get him to latch briefly, but he wasnt hungry so latched off and gave smiles. When hes really hungry he gets so destressed and refuses. But I will try the bath later. He will have to have formula when at dads so maybe if I mix feed thats better than nothing? (if I can get him to).
I have just expressed and have managed to get 6oz and still have a bit left to do. So my body must be able to make milk. I havent expressed or fed since yesterday though. Gave in and gave bottles.

Every single drop is better than nothing! If all else fails, freeze the expressed milk and use it in a few weeks when he is starting to eat solids, you can mix it with some fruit or baby porridge. Or just give it to him in his bottle, I know lots of women who feed their babies just from expressed milk, they just don't like breastfeeding or don't have the time to sit for hours with their baby attached to them.

Sounds as though you are producing though, 6oz is better than I ever managed when expressing. And of course, mixed feeding is still miles better than just formula, every little bit helps. Some women are capable of storing loads of milk and others can only produce it "on demand" (like me) so the fact that you manage to express at all is good news.

Giving him bottles isn't "giving in", it's just what you have to do to feed your baby. Honestly, you're a great mum, and believe me, you'll have loads of reasons to feel guilty when the kids are older, just wait until they want to eat pizza every night of the week or they want expensive toys that you can't afford! You've no reason to feel bad about this, we all know that you are doing your best. I don't know how you manage two kids on your own, I take my hat off to all single mums, you're all heroes! :T

  • Thank you. I think I only got to express so much because I havent managed to feed or express for 12 or more hours. But I will see if I can keep up expressing once a day so that I can freeze it for use in solids etc. Then I will feel tons better because he will still get some goodness.
Have just given him a bottle of formula and he is all happy and content again now. Just hoping the night feeds get better.
I also have a 2 1/2 year old so I def understand the guilty feelings over feeding him too lol. This week has been mainly fish fingers, chicken dippers etc. I love to cook him stuff from fresh but have been feeling so down in the dumps and tired lately that this week, we have just had easy food.

  • Glad you got it sorted! For others reading this thread, have a look to see if there is a twins or multiple births group near you - they will often have the equipment that you need that you can borrow for a short time.
