I must be the only person on the planet that hates San Diego, I even went for a second visit because I figured I must have been missing something the first time around. Turns out I hadn’t the second visit was just as rubbish

Stayed in the Gas Lamp district on the first visit and then on the Coronado for the second and disliked it on both occasions.

Perhaps it was that everybody told me I’d absolutely love it that put me off.

The Zoo is probably the most overrated place in the world. Yes they have Pandas and they do have lots of animals, but most are in small pokey enclosures. Much preferred San Francisco Zoo.

Seaworld is ok, but no different than the one in Florida

I thought Balboa Park was ok, as was Point Lomos and the Cabrillo National Monument.

I really found the place not that interesting though and having tried it twice will never go back.
  • I stayed in a Gaslamp Quarter which is the main pubs area, Gaslamp Plaza Suite hit had a connecting restaurant(which looked nice) and cocktail bar(which was nice) - the bar had an Alice in Wonderland theme. We were in a large suite was was about $100, I'm sure we could have gotten smaller/less money but it was only 1 night so we just did it.

Gaslamp Quarter was packed with pubs/restaurants within walking distance. I thoroughly recommend you visit the Zoo and Balboa Park.

Hi, we are going to SD for 2-3 nights in end of April, will have hire car with us.
After research we decided we want to be in walking distance of restaurants and shops in town so we are looking to book some budget hotel in Little Italy or Old Town..;)

For Little Italy, La Pensione is recommended all the time by the folks on Trip Advisor as a good budget option, or I saw some great deals last year on the Porto Visto hotel in the same area which looks pretty cool. Haven't stayed in either but thought I'd suggest to maybe give you a starting point.
  • We did a three week road trip around California and hated LA so took the risk and went down to San Diego instead. My word we absolutely fell in love with it. An absolutely beautiful city etched into our dreams! Highly recommended!
If you knew it then you know it!

Me and my girlfriend are visiting San Diego for four or five nights in September and I was just wondering if anybody could recommend any hotels or even just the best area to stay in?

My mates sister lives in SD and she has apparently recommended pacific beach but I cant find much on here about any hotels there. We also looked at the Dana in Mission beach but it seems the only thing near there is Sea World.

    Any suggestions would be great

    Thanks
we stayed in the dana hotel in april last year. It was lovely - we got 30 dollars per room for breakfast which was eaten in the restaurant - could not believe how much food there was for 30 dollars - it looks a bit run down on the outside but I think that just adds to the look of the place - wooden and blue chalets. Inside there was everything you could need - we loved it. It was quite chilly at night but there were lots of people in the pool so it must have been warm - went in the restaurant one night and sat outside on the restaurant veranda looking out over the bay. We got bikes out one day and cycled along the beach. Walked to seaworld one day. Its about 5 mile outside of san diego but it was a lovely chill out zone. Loved san diego - husband went on the warship and spent a few hours in there, went to bilbao park and they went in the model museum - we just walked around in the sunshine. Would have liked to have gone shopping for a few hours but there wasnt enough time.
