  • Just because the station showed 1.279 doesnt mean this is what was charged. Quite possible they just changed the sign early.

At the end of the day its irrelevant. Asda can charge what rate they want as long as they meet their VAT liabilities. the OP could have drove past but chose to fill up just to moan.

TS will send you on your way too.

Got the the Asda 24 Hour at the end of my street around 10pm. Earlier in the day the price was 124.9p but when I went to put diesel in the price was 127.9p - it appears that they put the VAT increase onto the fuel BEFORE midnight.

They (they all) always do this a few days before the rise... Then afterwards they advertise "VAT beating prices" to pull in the punters.

Exactly this. They can raise and lower the fuel as they please and as long they make reasonable precautions to ensure customers are aware of the current price then its there choice to buy it or not.
Exactly. The price of fuel in my neck of the woods has been irratic to say the least lately! So much so that I haven't noticed any VAT, lol.

Its the price that is displayed on the pump thats the one they have to go with. Usually new stations will be able to update both at the same time. The price on the pump is the price you pay otherwise they are breaking the law.
