Am I being Fobbed off by Asda

I needed diesel for my car (obviously) and I went to put some in on Monday evening.

Got the the Asda 24 Hour at the end of my street around 10pm. Earlier in the day the price was 124.9p but when I went to put diesel in the price was 127.9p - it appears that they put the VAT increase onto the fuel BEFORE midnight.

Emailed them and they replied that the last transaction for the 3rd was at 124.9p. And I should contact Trading Standards if I have an issue.

I am 100% certain I was charged 127.9p but I did not get reciept as i did not need it. I did pay by debit card though, so the transaction should show on there...

I know the amount is not huge, but it seems they were putting up the price before they should have as the price today is still 127.9p

Should I get them to check deeper into this?

How can the OP prove at what rate they paid VAT?

    The have no reciept.
  • do you know how many litres you put in as you will need to know that even if you know what you paid in total
  • The VAT rise is immaterial.

If the price was 127.9 and you paid it then you agreed to this amount. The increase may not have been the VAT at all, they may have just decided to put up the price of their fuel.

How will checking your card payment tell you how much you paid per litre?

If they know how many litres they put in they can quite easily calculate the cost per litre!

Exactly this. They can raise and lower the fuel as they please and as long they make reasonable precautions to ensure customers are aware of the current price then its there choice to buy it or not.

Can't prove who much fuel they put in can they?
  • I always get a receipt if I use the 24hr pump and I always ask for one if I use the other pumps too.
