Yes but as I keep pointing out I want to be able to do this for specific programs, not everything. I know you can set it to never notify you about anything, but I was saying I was surprised there isn't an option when it notifies you about a specific program for it to remember that rule (as is the case with, for example, the AVG firewall - I know it's a different process, so that's just an example).

    :)

In that case use your own firewall, although you will have to be a physicist to understand its workings. To decode the mystery of the Microsoft Firewall skin it with this

NB. All skin it means in this context, is that it applies an easy to understand interface to your existing Microsoft Firewall product.

Thanks. I use AVG as a firewall. Would a firewall work for this though as is seems to be windows 7 asking if prorgams can do something to the hard drive rather than connect to the internet.

It seems pretty clear that windows 7 can't have rules for each program, just another example of the way microsoft babysits it's customers... just a bit annoying really but not the end of the world! :)

UAC Trust Shortcut 1.0 is a tool made for Windows® 7
and Windows Vista™ users. Using UAC Trust Shortcut 1.0 you’re
able to make trusted shortcuts which UAC will NOT prompt for
    every time you run them.

Yes you can have a multitude of different rules for each prog, as stated earlier its understanding how to apply them, or in the case of the ' skin ' having an easy to understand interface.

However more than one [ control phreak ] firewall in a relationship is of itself going to lead to competing rights. I use MSE & Privatefirewall together without any issues.

In your case I can't speak for AVG its not a product I have ever used to protect my machines so I have no idea about compatibility, in which case forget my Privatefirewall suggestion.

Don't know why Windows 7 just doesn't make it easier - I thought that was the whole point of windows 7! :)

You should be asking why you'd want it too, it'd create a massive security vulnerability that would render the entire system useless.

In my case I do not, have not, and never will use the UAC. It is switched off the very moment the last boot on a fresh install finishes. This applied to both Vista & Win7 in their BETA form as well as the release versions of the platform.

I don't need you, MSE Martin, or Bill Gates to look after me. Its my machines , my responsibility to look after my kit, and I take it very personal and very seriously.

I am accountable, and as yet have never had a virus or been compromised in any way in twenty and more years, I do not need anyone to hold my hand [ UAC ] through the process of machine maintenance.

I am however pleased to have UAC as default, it does stop a lot of the less wary from blundering into an unforeseen problem, however if it worked the way it should posts to this forum would drop by 50% overnight, and alienRIK and others would be able to retire :)

Simple answer. Acronis needs to access your computer and make certain changes so that it can monitor and back up correctly. The whole point of the pop up asking for your permission is to stop rogue programs accessing your computer without your knowledge. If you are installing a program the answer must be yes.
    Leave UAC alone.

Yes, that's my view too! :)
