Just found out that one of my work colleagues is away 'sick' for tomorrow as well. It's Jan the 13th and she has been at work for a grand total of 3 days this year, has had a bank holiday, a couple of weekends and (about to be) 5 days off in sick leave. This may sound a bit uncaring but this particular work colleague has already had her excessive sick leave raised at board meetings and has been spoken to about it. And, after less than 3 days of work in the brand new year, has taken another 5 days off...
After listening to her rather forced cough on Thursday and Friday and complaints about how very ill she is (took some time off to go to the emergency ward at the local hospital - got turned away) I'm not the only one who feels that her week off is well beyond cheeky. In a small team of 4 and a wider team of 8 there isn't much sympathy (or any belief) heading her way.
God knows we'd all be happy to have 5 days paid leave - I could work on my flat (it needs it...). I think the rest of us are all too consciences to do this though, I know I certainly am.
Not much point to this post, and I'm not even really annoyed about it. I've worked with her for 3 years and her absenteeism is one of her many little quirks. Being a pathological liar (no exaggeration) is another. I've only recently realised this though (I can be a bit trusting of what people say to me if I have no reason to doubt their word) and after getting a bit of ridicule thrown my way (of the 'I can't believe you didn't realise - I knew after two weeks that she was totally full of s**t' kind) I now find her stories very funny. I had missed a lot of the real gems as we don't talk much, but the rest of my team filled me in. I didn't know I had an athlete of epic proportions working in my team. Able to leg press 90 kgs, can run 5 miles in twently minutes? ASTOUNDING! :rotfl:
I just thought I'd share something other than purely money money moneyHope no one minds.

Well I've got a (little) bit of free time tonight to do a quick catch up on some threads and do my own post.
Money saving was average over the weekend. Including the loss of the hat  I think I was charged too much on my Oyster for taking my friend back to his place in Croydon. I have a zone 1 -4 season pass and I have a sneaking suspicion it whacked me for for a huge charge. I'll ring Oysterline or whatever it's called tomorrow and find out. That is what happens when you stagger back after a night on the tiles lol. Wasn't too bad though considering I didn't pay for a single drink all night. So baring the hat , it was just the train tickets and the two chicken burgers I bought from BK as a 'soak up the excess alcohol' trick. I ate mine but my leaving friend (who has the stomach of a concrete elephant) only ate half, said he couldn't handle it any more and then put it away in his plastic bag and told me he'd reheat it for lunch tomorrow! :rotfl:A true MSE'r if ever I saw one!
Then Friday night was a very cheap head straight home after work, crash out in bed and go straight to sleep because I was so exhausted after Thursday.
Saturday I actually managed to do some painting in the morning  before heading over to Purley for a Carvery and a movie night with friends. Because 1. I wasn't piished and 2. It wasn't the middle of the night, I got proper extention tickets from zone 4 to 6 and used my Gold Card for a further 33% off. And to think I nearly threw that Gold Card away when I got it because I thought it was a receipt! It's not like the guy actually told me what it was, I guess they all 'assume' you know. Or more likely they don't give a stuff about saving their clientele money so they don't bother to point them out...
We had vouchers for the carvery (Martin would be proud) so the most delicious roast in the world only set us back £5.50 each. Although I did then buy a drink and leave a pound tip because the staff are always very good natured and we are a heck of a rowdy bunch
The movie later was great - Inception (which I've never seen) in my friends 'movie room'. Better than a theatre I think - Surround sound, projector and huge white screen which drops from the ceiling. Very swish! AND he did it all himself so it only cost him around £1,500 for the lot. Pretty damn cool
Then Sunday I went back to Croyden for another pub lunch (a Weatherspoons and great value) and some other fun stuff which I don't feel the need to share!
So, a couple of bought meals but well worth it in entertainment value which is what I have as my guiding star. I'm fine with spending money so long as it's worth it!
I also went to B & Q after work today and spent £40 on decent paint brushes and rollers etc. My first painting experience has definately taught me that value paint rollers absolutely suck! I've bought the best paint so I shouldn't ruin it by using cheap and nasty rollers.
Oh, I also have (finally) received my ISA things in the post today, my electric has now switched over to nPower and gas has switched today. Feel those savings

ISA forms have been completed and sent off so that should hopefully be set up before I leave for NZ in 9 days (takes a while to set these things up, I'm really surprised). I still haven't heard back from First Direct with any actual dates on when my account will be set up. Sigh.
I also have my 'final' bill from British Gas for my electric, which will actually be the only bill I pay as they got all the earlier ones wrong. That's for £60 for the five months which isn't too bad I suppose but would be only around £40 if I had been with nPower from the word go. Anyway good riddance to them that's for sure!Mini Challenge - Halve 2nd Mortgage by Year EndStarting: £10,000 Currently £8,142.62£3,142.62 to go!0 -
Oh forgot to say that I still haven't spent anything more on groceries
. I'm actually thinking how I can use absolutely everything in my fridge/freezer and then I can turn off the electrics for the 3 weeks I'm away. I think I'll very nearly be able to not buy anything more as I still have a fair amount of food. It would be wonderful to be able to keep my food bill for the month down below £70, I have never in my entire life spent so little on my monthly shop! Just shows how you can really rein it in with a little determination and some forward planning! I'm seriously chuffed :T

You are doing so well!! It's amazing just how much food we actually hoard in our freezers isn't is...and how proud we feel of ourselves if we actually manage to use it all up!! Good thinking about the electrics too"A smile takes but a moment...
...but the memory of it lasts forever"0 -
I'm coming over yours this weekend SS2S
Mine was sooo boring compared to yours!

On the walls, on the ceilings, on the carpet (lucky it's getting turfed) on my hands, on my clothes, in my hair and on the cat
That brush sure made a difference. Value my left butt cheek! What is the point of buying cheap rubbish that does such a terrible job you need to throw it out and buy something decent.
