Where do i stand? Second hand car tyre

Hi,
I bought a 59 reg vauxhall astra 2 months ago from a vauxhall garage. On inspecting the vehicle before collection the tyres were fine. However, a week ago, looking at the tyres I noticed now i have a very worn tyre on the front left side. It means i have to get a new tyre, the right front still has alot of tread and so do the back. What i was wondering is, do i have any rights if i try to go back to the garage and ask for a new tyre? Should they have sold me the car with this tyre? Or could it be a fault as there is so much tread difference between the two sides?
Thanks in advance :o

I don't think you will have any joy on getting a replacement tyre but there may be an underlying issue for one tyre to wear quicker than the opposing side. Get the tracking looked at when getting a new tyre.

The garage you bought the car at will probably suggest what I'm about to. 2-months is a long time to drive around if you have a bent lower arm on one side after hitting a pothole or curb. How many miles have you covered in said 2-months? Are you the sole driver of the vehicle? Given that the tyre at fault is only on one side of the car, I'd say tracking wont be an issue here.

    No apologies necessary :D

It was more of an afterthought, and wasn't directly aimed at your post, but seeing as how my post showed up below yours, I figured I'd say it...:A

I am the sole driver. Driven about 600 miles. About the bent lower arm, since i have had it i don't recall hitting any potholes or curbs

Have you noticed any strange handling charateristics sinse you got the car? Maybe the suspension was already damaged when you bought the car, but didn't notice? How worn is the tyre?

The tyre is evenly warn and is about 2mm. A friend said that it doesn't look like any damage because the tyre would wear on one side??? Also he noticed that i have 2 different brand tyres which in itself isn't strange but usually i would have one brand at the front and the other at the back but they are diagonal to each other (hope that makes sense!).

Sorry, I thought I read somewhere that it was uneven wear. That not being the case, and instead it beaing even, does seem strange to me. As it's evenly worn, it wont be a suspension issue. What is the mileage on the car? Given the year of registration, it's possible that all tyres are/were the originals, and thus would all be the same brand. That alone would prompt me to visit the dealer again.

What is the tyre wear like on the other "rear" matching tyre?
Likewise what is it like on the tyre that matches the "less worn" front tyre?

It could be they've rotated one of the tyres (moved it front to back) to try save money on replacing it (although normally you'd do it in pairs) to keep wear even

The other tyres are fine and look fairly new. Is it worth taking it back or cut my losses and buy a new one myself?
