Can you claim if you damage your car hitting a pot hole?

It would have been filled because your claim would also have been a "report" so then they know about it....and are obliged to fix it
thanks for the reply but the accident was thursday night, pothole filled friday morning, and i sent away the forms to the council on the saturday (my first contact with them). no contact was made with them before the hole was filled.0 -

Coming home last night (in the dark) I hit a pothole on my scooter. The force of hitting it caused my top-box to detach and go bowling along the road beside me for a little while.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the only problem - my rear wheel was so badly dented, it could bot retain air, and I was stranded 5 miles from home.
This was an urban street, with bad street lighting, and I never saw what I hit, so I'm having to return this morning with a camera and start the ball rolling with a claim to Glasgow City Council.
I'll update the thread with pictures, and any ongoing saga - but research has shown they are not bad at settling.0 -
We've just claimed off our insurance - they've taken the car and further details regarding it - including photos and a video we took just after it happened.
Also another person who received a lot of mre damage than ours has made a successful claim as well.
There is no way this pothole would of appeared over night
Our suspension (you can see our vehicle in the picture) is shot to pieces, both passenger side alloys have huge flat spots. This hole is just off a blind bend and hitting it at 60mph threw us across the road, luckily nothing coming!
The small corsa van that hit it afterwards suffered a lot more damage. Luckily we were able to turn around and warn other oncoming vehicles whilst we took evidence.
Give it a go! Hopefully we will hear by the end of the week if the insurance company will pay out.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

My council sprays a yellow paint around potholes once they are aware of them.
However, it can take ages to then repair. One pothole near me was marked but not repaired for 8 months.
Also, I remember hearing councils pay compo out rather than repair due to cost, ie not many people claim.0 -
I use this site to report potholes:
http://www.fillthathole.org.uk/
They also have a free iPhone app (link on their site) which is very easy to use.
Reporting via one of these sites means the council(s) can't "lose" or "not be aware" of information that has been sent to them, as all reports are accessible to the public via the site's map.0 -
I once used my insurers' legal service to claim for damage from a pothole, from the council, so it can be done.We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.

My coil spring snapped after driving over a pothole. I paid for the repairs (£97) and contacted the council to report the pothole. Their contractor has since been out and repaired the road, but they are coming to visit me at home on Monday. I am not sure if ths is to offer compensation/refuse compensation (i didnt ask for compensation just mentioned the damage in my report to them).
My question is, should I have reported the damage to my insurance company ? I fully comp, but as I didnt think of this as an "accident" I just assumed I would pay for the repairs.
