My 8 year old child has just been awarded DLA (middle rate care, low rate mobility) and the letter says the payments will be made every 4 weeks. Is it possible to change that to weekly? Thought i'd ask here before calling. TIA!

The default position is that DLA a weekly payable benefit paid on Wednesdays but if you are being paid another benefit 4 weekly they can decide to lump the payments together. There is no 'right' to be paid weekly as far as I'm aware but there is certainly no harm in asking.0

Hi, i get mine weekly on a Wednesday. I did originally receive it 4 weekly on Tuesdays, but rang to request weekly as i found it easier to budget. As enabled says, no harm in asking!0

ive always had mine weekly on a thursday!
If youre a first time recipient of DLA (not used to having the money weekly, and so having a weekly budget with DLA included) I'd think it far better to get it monthly. Can do a lot more with a lump of £250 ish than getting a smaller amount weekly. I know we all say we'll save it up, but theres always something to spend it on lol0 -
Thanks. I think i'll give them a call tomorrow. I'm torn between the pros and cons of having it four weekly, but i think weekly would be better as primarily it'll be going on weekly things for my son.Best win: ITV Real Deal £2100!!

I get mine weekly - on a wednesday. Find this easier to deal with as shopping etc is done on a weekly basis.
ESA (employment support allowance) is paid fortnightly on a monday0 -
My esa is paid on a friday and DLA is 4 weekly on a tuesdayThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

sorry thats incorrect, for about 2 years now dla has been seperated from all other benefits and paid seperately from them every FOUR weeks.
if being paid 4 weekly is causing you financial hardship they may consider weekly payments but there is NO right to this0 -
it is a 4 weekly benefit and not standard to pay weekly or fortnightly, however, if you contact them they will instruct that you write a letter detailing as to why you NEED WITH A GOOD REASON why its paid weekly, it is up to a decision maker whether to grant the weekly payments if you believe the decision to be wrong after that you would have to appeal with very good reason for a reconsideration. but i remind you THERE IS NOT RIGHT TO A WEEKLY PAYMENT and the DLA can resurve the right to not reconsidder and or resurve the right to put your payments back to 4 weekly even if granted and recieved weekly.0

Sorry (this is very petty and unlikely to improve anyone's life) but it is not a 4 weekly benefit it is weekly. The DM has discretion to alter this for pragmatic reasons but the starting point is weekly on Wednesday- this is not a grey area but regulation.0 -
My DLA is always paid 4 weekly on a Monday, has been since I was awarded 8 years ago. I thought the payment dates were based on NI number?0
