    32% is "nobody" ?

"Rise of the ‘price pessimists’ as those expecting prices to fall jumps from one in ten to one in three in the space of a year, while proportion of ‘price optimists’ halves over the same period."

I think you've missed the point. Prices may fall a little and they may well recover a little.

They will not be 70% off by Christmas as some people predicted at the start of 2010.

I've been trying to buy since I got my life insurance payout just over a year ago. I'm exchanging this week, I hope. The interest on the money has come nowhere near paying my rent, so I'll be a lot better off once I've bought. (Oh, and the price I agreed in October was £45k than they originally listed it for in January, and they've done about £5k of repair work too.)
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

So your idea of "significant" starts at 70% falls?

Not sure I could find a 70% reductions. But 50% is easy in terms of marketed price.

Especially in awful areas of the NE.

Your premise is that "nobody" think there will be significant falls.

I think there is still room for double-digit falls. As arbiter of what consititues "significant", could you tell me what grouping [tin-foil/bear/middle-ground/bull/hpi-nutter] I fall into..?

Now, to test if its just me who thinks that, you might consider Rightmove's analysis - it does not split out the extent of falls, and may indeed be flawed anyway, as most stats tend to be.

But out of the 32% who think there will be falls, do you seriously believe that not 1 person thinks they will be "significant"?

What each person feels to be significant will depend on their situation. Those stuggling to get a 15%+ deposit, will be happy if 5% to 8% comes off...others may be feeling more ambitious.

Just been on a thread in Housebuying where there is nearly £200k off a two-year-old asking price of £700k. Does that count as significant enough?

I don't think we'll see any MSE FTBers. Those who were genuinely in the market have bought now.

Personally I may upsize in autumn-ish.

Well not having missed the boat would indicate you were no longer hunting wouldn't it. Having missed the boat you'd be pretty pіssed off and in that respect I'd have to agree, probably would be quite annoying.

What boat? It's the analogy of a boat leaving and lots of people missing it, with no further chance of a boat for them which I find so silly.

There were houses around last year, there are housing around this year and they'll be houses around next year. And likely to be houses around for years and years to come. No one 'misses a boat' by not buying now, as they can just buy in the future.

Is your current place too small or are you having more kids? Or do you just like to upsize your house every now and again?
