Virgin and Equifax disputes

hi there, not sure if anyone can help me but I've been running between Equifax and Virgin for 6 months and got nowhere!
My Ex and I divorced last year and I took over house in my name. He left an outstanding Virgin bill and Virgin failed me on the credit check to get services with them. They said my Equifax file showed he was still financially associated with me and therefore I was liable for the bill and my credit was affected by his bad credit (if that makes sense).
I bought my credit report and raised a dispute to remove him as a Financial Associate. All accounts that were with him are closed off, mortgage is complete etc.
Equifax said he is not financially associated with me and he doesn't appear on my report, so there is nothing to remove (that's what I thought when I read my report).
Virgin then told me it was because he is showing at a previous address. Another 4 credit reports later, 1 more dispute raised to remove him from all previous addresses and Equifax confirmed - again - he is not financially associated with me at any address, anywhere.
Virgin have been running searches on me since July 2010 and they've they have spoken to Equifax twice and Equifax gave them different information. The Virgin rep said my credit reports are all wrong/a load of rubbish.
What can I do?? Equifax Customer Service said to me that the credit reports are right and won't help me work out what to do, Virgin are saying they are wrong and need to be updated, but Equifax said there is nothing to update!
HELP!!! Either virgin or Equifax have duff info, and Equifax is telling us two different stories

You'd get a lot better response in a different section of the forum as this part is more concerned with the technicalities of internet access than failing credit checks.
