  • mine machine was using 2.13gb of memory after installing and running ccleaner and then uninstalling it its now using 2.59gb of memory increase of 460mb ish nothing too drastic as i have 16gb in total

its a svchost thats now consuming more mb's

it saved me 1.5gb of hard disk space tho as it removes undeltable files like the thb_256 files etc

endpoint protection only said the uninstall file was a virus but thats a false positive and nothing to worry about.

could be beneficial to people that dont carry out there own maintenance on the registry and start up items - i do this about twice a week so it didnt actually find any problems in the registry
  • Here is a working link to something similar (PCPro review).

I have been maintaining residential computers for over 10 years, and in all that time I've never been impressed by 'tune up' software. Of course I might be biased but computers tend to slow down because of:
    • a backlog of temp files
    • an oversized temporary internet files folder
    • software conflicts (poor installation management)
    • children (with games or downloaded mild malware)
    • big anti-virus programmes on low performance machines
    • poor/no defrag (ashampoo magic defrag recommended)
    • several years old without a re-install.
    • startup items including programmes never used.
    • possibly old/faulty hard drive (2-3 years+)
The list could indeed go on. I have visited so many people that were prepared to throw away their machine because they thought it was expiring. In the majority of cases it the machine only requires the removal of all personal files, then a CLEAN copy of the operating system installed (avoid hardware manufacture versions). I know this might be scary for some, but when you've done it once, it's quite easy and something that could be done every 2 years or whenever you lose patience with the machine!

There may come the day that the hard drive goes pop, in which case you can buy another and install it. Provided you have the use of another computer, you can google "hard drive" then click on images, so you know what you're removing. Provided you can understand the concept of a screwdriver, it shouldn't be too stressful a job.

    I hope that helps :-)

  • i format my machine regularly theres nothing like a fresh blank install for super fast machines.

Hiya Herbert, can I assume the 0.46MB of extra memory consumed by the svchost was only whilst you were actually running ccleaner ?. Ccleaner does not / should not / use anything at all when not running !

If your machine is using 0.46 extra when ccleaner is not working you have done something wrong my friend.

The only thing I use is something called Scotty Patrol which is a great little utility (with a tiny memory footprint) which alerts me any time a program tries to add itself to the autostart list which is great for turning off pointless start up programs like the one that makes Quick Time open 0.0025 second faster, and so on.
  • it was after it had uninstalled it but i then realised that i had opened another model in my 3d cad software so i think it was more than likely that
  • I really wouldn't touch any of these "tune up" programmes with a bargepole. They usually do a substandard job and occasionally just screw things up. If your computer is creaking a bit you will get a better result from a fresh install than these things. The most common cause of poor performance I see is people who install and uninstall free programmes and trial software resulting in registry bloat and a pile of useless junk loading on startup.

So in short reinstall the OS rather than installing another substandard piece of crapware.
There's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
