Is it possible to get my Virgin services cheaper?

Hey guys.
I'm a 3rd year student in my last semester.
I'm trying to budget as hard as i possibly can and one area my budget person is trying to get me to look at is my TV and broadband.
I'm paying around £35-40 for a 20meg broadband and a large tv package. My friend called virgin recently and asked if it was possible to reduce the cost of my services.
I also need to set the direct debit up, I'm being charged £5 extra for it. I hate the fact they do that, i don't even get bills.
They told her that was the cheapest package they did.
I live in a house that's self contained flats and no one in the house really speaks to each other. I did ask one girl who lives above me if she had broadband, and she does. I'm trying to think of ways to reduce the amount i pay by seeing if anyone else wanted to share my broadband (its a three story house so i doubt my wifi will work higher up)
I'm also in a basement flat so trying to get tv thru an aerial is a nightmare, so free view is completely ruled out.
I'm also minus a tv licence.... (i am aware of the repercussions of this)
Its just occurred to me if i cancel the tv i can still use the box for free view... Will virgin want the box back?
So any ideas?

Are you out of your minimum term contract yet? Do you need the Large TV package?
And the box will stop working full stop, and they now generally ask for them back anyway.0 -
Just bear in mind that any change now to your VM package will start you on a new 12m contract, which as a student at this time of year I assume you do not want.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Hey guys.
I went to talk to someone at our local Virgin media shop who told me to phone Virgin up and ask about the M packge.
I called them and went thru to the 'thinking of leaving option' and explained my situatuon. They couldn't put me on the M
package as i didn't have a phone line.
What they did do, was offer me a whole free month, or two months half price!
I'm rather happy about that result.0 -
Good, but you are now in contract for a further 12m, as pointed out above. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
