This is a biggie, so big in fact that I'm going to put into in BOLD and big print (:D)
Time off for employees
You don't have an automatic right to paid leave on bank and public holidays, though many people receive the day off work. Any right to time off or extra pay for working on a bank holiday depends on the terms of your contract of employment.
Just because theGovernment (in its wisdom) has declared a Public Holiday, don't take it for granted that your employe has done as well - plus, bear in mind that if you do take the day off, you ar not entitled to any pay for doing so.
Your contract of employemt and the Law trumps the Governments declaration of an additional days public holiday.

I booked my trip to South America completely oblivious to Easter dates or this Royal wedding. It's a bonus as it means I won't use up as many holiday days as I had previously thought. The only backdraw is I miss 4 BH of double time money. I'd rather be in S America than at work though hahaha0

Quite a few schools and colleges have gone to fixed length terms rather than trying to cope with the wandering date of Easter - which generally means having the "Easter" holidays around the start of April.I guess it depends on each individual school, as loads of schools in my area (West Yorkshire) are closed the full week before easter and the full week after easter.
It means that this year the kids (and teachers) will get another 3 days holiday as they'll get Good Friday, Easter Monday & Wedding Day.
As for me, I'm going to be at work then - let some other mug pay the higher prices and as most people will be away there won't be the incessant phone calls0
