Additions Direct / Very Shopping Insurance

Hey guys, wonder if you can help me?

I have been a customer of Additions Direct (rebranded recently as 'VERY') for about 3 years now. When I set up my online account, I was asked if I wanted to take out shopping insurance, which is charged at 1.98% monthly of your balance. I thought it would be a good idea at the time and I suppose I probably never read it through properly, but chose to take it as a precaution.

Anyway I have just been checking my transactions (my balance on Additions currently stands at £1,300 and my credit limit is £3000) and noted my shopping insurance and thought, heck that's a lot, maybe I should cancel that (in a good, secure job and £1,300 is an amount that if push came to shove I could pay off in three months and still eat! lol)

So whilst on the website trying to cancel the policy, I read their terms and policies and came across this:

With the optional protection of Shopping Insurance on your account we could:
  • Help with your payments if you are made redundant
  • Cover your payments if you fall sick or have an accident
  • Protect your purchases against loss, accidental damage or theft
How it all works
A charge will appear on your statement each month when you add Shopping Insurance to your account. Provided you are aged 18-75*, living in the UK** and have a credit account with us you could be covered.

** Excluding the Channel Islands

Sounds great doesn't it, apart from the fact that I live in GUERNSEY (the Channel Islands).

So ok, maybe I missed that bit in the policy, but considering that for the last three years they have been sending my bits to GUERNSEY and surely my address must have been listed somewhere on the policy as GUERNSEY I feel a bit WOAH - thats a hell of a lot to pay for a policy that will not cover you.

I have sent an email to Additions this evening addressing my concerns and tentatively enquiring about a refund of insurance (which I am sure will be laughed at).

Is this a case of being mis-sold a policy or just a case of my ignorance?

Any comments or advice greatly received.

Thanks
Kirsty

Hi. Good luck with that. You think their computer systems would recognise that you are not eligable for the cover! Although I suspect that they will try and cover themselves and say "you are not entitled to the unemployment cover, but you do still benefit from the merchandise cover" blah blah blah.

I know they ship to Europe now and it's possible to hold an account to anyone within that area but surely the cover is not appropriate to people outside of the UK?

Just one last thing - I have an account with additions.co.uk - and mines has not changed to very.co.uk.

I have been with them since it was ARGOS ADDITIONSand you got a big catalogue instead of a website! LOL! Can you let me know how you get on. :)
  • Thanks, Additions and Very are the same thing now, when I get the catalogue, it comes as VERY and when I make a payment (I am on Direct Debit payments) I get a text from VERY telling me how much has come from my account. Although I still log on via additions :)

If they don't give me a satisfactory response I will take it further, but dont know how, but will let you know how I get on!
