To be fair, Job Centres often have the cr&ppiest jobs. I did a search for where I live. Not a single job as a manager found but I could take my pick of cleaning and catering jobs. If you search on Monster or a professional job website the results are totally different.

ETA: pay's not so good, but this could be an interesting foot in the door for you Pastures:

    They wouldn't.

But then if I lost my job tomorrow the job centre would be my absolute and complete last resort when it came to finding a job. I'd only use it if I'd used up all other avenues.

Funnily enough I worked as a Receptionist in a Premier Inn when I was an A Level student many moons ago. 'Twas called Travel Inn in the them days. Oh how things change.
  • The one time in my life i ever visited a job centre, i was looking for jobs in a really specific area of science.. turns out all the unis use the job centre (as well as jobs.ac.uk) and i found some really great jobs advertised.

However, none of those jobs would pay my mortgage

My big tip is join Linkedin, they've got a very good job search area and you sometimes get approached by recruitment specialists

I think I'm banned from applying for their jobs. I've applied for every job they've advertised this year. Did get an interview the first time (they'd already picked somebody and my application went in late, but somebody saw me anyway as I looked so good on paper apparently). Anyway, enter "their mum" and they kind of went off the idea.

Next one I applied for via 3 routes, including going to an agency when I'd heard nothing .... and the agency raved over my CV and got onto them ... and it all went quiet, he eventually came back and said "they said you've already applied and to not bother applying again". So sod 'em.

In ALL seriousness, I've been watching them for the past year, they're always advertising. They seem to: advertise and it says job's on a 3 month trial, say job's gone, then 3 months later advertise it again. I seriously doubt there are any jobs - and I think their job adverts are actually creating an illusion of importance to pull in new clients. The same jobs come up every 3 months, I've counted about 4-6x apiece this year - and they're only tiny.

These jobs are for peeps whose income is topped up with WTC, CB, etc or are living three-to-a-room in HMOs. That's why the employers knows they can get peeps who are barely competent on min wage

I worked in one of those exact jobs when I was younger. I did it as I was young, wanted to be part of a team and needed experience for my CV. I ended up working there on and off in different roles for about 4 years through Uni as it was a nice place to work. I'm sure the experience looked good on my CV and helped me get a job when I left uni too.

I wasn't on WTC, CB or living three to a room either.

Here's a plan for you, then PasturesNew.

Choose a business that you want to work for.

Get 1st place in google for five of their products.

Get 1st place in google for their chairmans name, and write a sales page for that name saying what you can do for their company... which is, you have obtained google 1st places for the product for these five products, and himself. Does he want any other keyword positions ranked?

    Wait.

Seconded. I love LinkedIn. It enables you to network even when you aren't online or in touch with people.

Yeah, except .... how do you find a company you want to work for. I've only ever worked for idiots, how do you know who's good or not? Or do I not actually care and just hit the snottiest one?
