I am at LA Fitness at the minute for a trial. I am considering going to Pure gym at 16.99 per month.

Anyone know what the going rate for LA Fitness per month at the minute is?

    Hi,

In May they were offering £24.99 per month, so I changed my membership to use Adelaide St only and now paying that :-) I'd say you could get it at that price, or close to it, especially if you only want to use Adelaide St. My boyfriend is due to join after his free trial this week, so I'll keep you posted on his fee!

Do you have a friend or someone referring you to LA? Usually means you get free joining fee, and/or £25 each and/or £50 to the referrer.

    Puregym is the way forward!

it is so cheap, packed with machines of all types and there are always classes of all kinds going on in it!

i did the joining before it opened where i dodn't even have to pay a joining fee and only pay about £13 a month for it on a monthly rolling contract!

i used to be a member of Fitness First in connswater, it was awful! not one nice member of staff in the place, unless they thought they were getting more money out of you...

and it was a rip off at £35ish a month with a joining fee (cant remember what it was though since it was in about 2007)

i would never go near that place after the experience i had trying to leave.

i was paying extra to make my contract monthly rather than yearly. this was fine. i went to cancel one day and a member of staff helped me do so signing forms etc to cancel my membership. so i then cancelled my direct debit as i was no longer a member and didn't need to pay.

but then i got a letter from fitness first saying i owed them money...

on further investigation i found out that apparently they had conveniently "lost" my joining papers and that they said i was still in a yearly contract. I ignored this as i was in the right.

then a few weeks later i got a letter from CARS debt collection agency, then i had some fun putting them in their place, pointing out how wrong they were and making coplaints to as many managers as possible causing as much hassle as possible before sorting everything out properly.

luckily for me i was smart and kept my own copy of the initial contract i had signed and showed that to them , scanned and emailed it to their head office and demanded they remove me from a debt collectors list and wipe any trace of it ever appearing on my credit record, so that was funny seeing the look on the face of the gym manager!

their "excuse" after all this was that the guy who had originally signed me had been sacked for doing things wrong and that apparently he binned all his papers.

load of nonsense! and a hateful place!

    Thanks retro1981 and drew2K9

I was a member of LA Fitness Adelaide St about 10 years ago and left as it was too expensive. I have to say that 10 years on LA Fitness Adelaide St looks a bit tired and it appears that they have not even painted the place in all that time.

I went for a look around Pure gym and I was really impressed as you say plenty of machines and really clean and new looking.

The only thing that swings in LA Fitness favor to me is that it is so close to my work and I don't have to worry about car parking but given the choice I would rather go to Pure Gym.

retro1981 it would be great if you would let me know what your boyfriend is offered as a monthly fee.

drew2K9 I wouldn't touch Fitness First with a barge pole and your post has confirmed why, you shouldn't have had to go through all of that.

good luck with whichever you choose.

as you say, puregym is great, but its positioning isnt! although the carpark next door lets you park for £1 an hour for the first 4 hours if that helps?

Hi jellynose. He signed up today, £28/month, no joining fee, and I'm due to get £50 referral. He's more than happy with it, thinks it's a great gym, plenty of classes, pool & spa facilities, etc. He was previously at FitSpace. LA got a makeover recently, new cardio machines & was re-painted. Unfortunately it still has a dreaded smith machine and no power rack! Like you, LA fitness is handy to my work, and to my house (2mins walk each way!).

PureGym is probably worth trying, since its cheaper and no contract, so you could move on easily if you need to. The only negative things I've heard are that there are not enough free weights & dumbbells, poor classes, and has alot more "posers" than other gyms(!)

    *BUMP*

Hello, just wondering if anyone knows an up to date price for the memberships at LA Fitness? I can't find much online, and I don't want to ring and be given the hard sell, just want a general idea of peak membership and whether they tie you into a contract.

    Thanks for reading :)

You should be able to get it for around £25/month for use of 1 club at all days/times. To my knowledge they provide contracts from 6 months to 2 years. A 6-week membership was showing on their website for £69. You might be able to bargain them down on this, if you just want to try it out for a short time.

Keep an eye out on Groupon as well- i got a good deal on 10 day passes for LA Fitness just recently.
  • Bump- does anyone know what the best offer on is at the moment in the UK/London? Went to sign up and it was 49.95 plus obligatory 55 for a starter pack, which is still alot. Any tips/hints?
