Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this.

I've just received an o2 Sim Pack for a name that doesn't even live at this house. A Miss *****.

My brother had the same problem about six months ago. He was receiving sim packs at his address (Different to here) for a Miss **** (Different name). He ended up receiving packs of multiple things. Catalogues, etc, etc... All in this one person's name.

I just did a Google search and found this: http://www.pieandbovril.com/forum/index.php/topic/129699-sim-card-scam/

So I don't think we're alone.

I've rang o2. The girl on the other end didn't really know what to say (or do) other than advise I cross it out and return to sender.

Does anyone know what is going on and should I be doing anything else post my conversation with o2?

I've got my own theory that it's some kind of spam money making thing where they just send to any old address, but just wondering if anyone had any idea or had heard of this before..

Thanks.

Cross out the address, write "not at this address" and shove them in a post box, O2 will receive them and look into the accounts, if they're unable to contact the person who's name the SIMs are in they'll be flagged up as fraud and bars will be placed on the account/handsets unless it appears to be a genuine mistake (i.e. addresses not being updated).
  • It's not strictly a scam.

What this person is doing is ordering SIM's through a referral site such as Quidco which offers money for each free SIM ordered. They also hope that you activate some of them which earns them extra money.

So don't worry about it too much, they're not going to use your details to take out a loan or anything like that! :-) It's bit of a nuisance than anything sinister.
