Misled by mobile provider

I've been with the same provider for 10+ years and received a call out of the blue last week telling me as a long term customer I was being offered a special deal to hold the existing features of my tariff but would now be charged £10 per month. I queried it a number of times, thinking it was too good to be true but they continued to say it was a special offer to a limited number of customers and I would be moved onto the new £10 per month tariff. Today I received a new sim card, and a new number in the post. I phoned my provider's customer service, said I was confused about the new number and sim card and they explained that I had recently accepted an offer to add a new number to my account for just £10 a month. At no point had the agent who called me initially mentioned anyhing about a new number or that the £10 per month was in addition to my normal tariff. I have submitted a complaint but I was wondering if anyone knew if I had any more rights?

To be perfectly honest I'd say you were not misled by your provider, but someone claiming to be them. I often get them from people climaing to be from Vodafone but then when I ask for them to verify themselves by telling me about the account the hang up.

As you say you got it by post it may be subject to the DSR rules.
DO NOT USE IT, Reject it and return it.
  • It was Vodafone, and everything that arrived in the post was all very genuine and Vodafone customer services had a record of last week's call and the new tariff etc. I received a further call last night from a Team Leader, they have confirmed that the 'script' used by the agent last week does appear to have been misleading and as a gesture of apology they have reduced my existing tariff by 50% until the end of my contract in 2012. So it does pay to make a stand as a Consumer!! Yay!!
