Changing phones on an existing plan

This relates to my previous threads. My OH upgraded to a new Android phone (Samsung GalaxyApollo) around 2 months ago with a plan from Orange. He has given it his best shot but is really not getting on with it, the features which are supposed to be a selling point, like all the apps running at the same time so you can't turn them off and it returning you back to the last internet page you visited, he finds really annoying.

He is now thinking he should change to something simpler. I would take the current phone off his hands (I have more patience and am more interested in things like music) to free him up for something more suited to his needs, maybe a blackberry,

What are the issues in changing your phone on an existing plan?

And in my case, in using an existing phone "bought" from someone else, as a payg? I am also on Orange.

If you're both on Orange, have you tried swapping the sim cards over?

With my last upgrade I actually preferred my old phone to the new one so used the old one, so I don't think it makes a lot of difference which phone the sim is in.

I'm a very new Orange customer but will already highly recommend the San Francisco over a Blackberry - I love it :j

I don't think you can change your handset on contract. If you have a payg handset lying around that is suitable to your hubby's needs by all means swap the sims... but if you haven't and you want a BB I've found a deal for Bold 9780 at £15.96 (24 mth) or £21.78 (18 mth) per month. (Even cheaper than the one I signed on a few days ago although my handset has yet to arrive after a week! )

On the mobiles.co.uk site get the t-mobile Web 900, the 18 and 24 months deal both cost £383 over the course of contract, black and white handset costs the same. Go thru the topcashback.co.uk website for an extra £50.50 cashback.

The deal has now been taken offline. My phone still hasn't arrived. :(

Orange don't care what phone you use - your only concern is to get an orange phone or one that is network unlocked. The only other thing is that if you get him a blackberry, you'll need to get the blackberry bundle (£5pm) or not everything will work (if you are bothered about that).
