who were you flying to FL with.
  • I have regularly flown into Ft Lauderdale and it has changed a lot over the years getting bigger. However, it is a very nice airport and not as intimidating as Miami. I would say its a 3-4 hour drive to Disney World, probably not in miles, but find the road, and then the hotel etc, and any stops en route. If you go on the turnpike its a toll road, but little traffic, some places to stop but I cant remember the name of the good ones. There are also ones to avoid! i95 is very busy and very big.

    BE VERY CAREFUL IN MIAMI.

honestly, its not the sweetest place in the world. take advice on where to go, book your hotels and dont go wandering.

Orlando, obviously is totally different, but parts of miami can be dangerous.

    Bad Neighborhoods
Most of these areas are in the northern part of Greater Miami, but be aware that just two to three blocks from popular Coco Village, the socalled “Black Grove” is unfortunately quite rundown and dangerous.

We took our girls to Orlando several times in the 90s. On the first trip we (ok I) took the wrong exit off the road and ended up in the older part of Orlando. The sort of area where you had people sat on steps drinking from bottles wrapped in brown paper bags. In those days hire cars stuck out like a sore thumb because of the car registration. Police officer pulled me over and then followed me back to the main road again as he said it wasn't the safest of areas for tourists. This was at 10 am and he said it was much worse at night.

does not surprise me everywhere has good and bad although when i was in orlando i never saw any dodgy areas and i did a fair amount of driving over the 2 weeks (1800 miles)
Miami on the other hand was nothing like you see on the telly with nice areas and art deco the bits i saw were !!!!!! holes to be blunt and i did not feel very safe walking around.
