He/she has most probably converted them to vobs to play on dvd using software which is easy to get I have done this myself many years ago

You wont be able to get good quality picture unless he/she has copied the photo's directly

And as said he/she will be the copyright holder and not you which is why they have done that in the first

You can import vobs into some software and reach the right frame and copy but the quality wont be brilliant besides if its dvd it will be 720x576

    Thanks for the responses.

The point is taken regarding the copyright but my son and daughter in law have huge issues with the photographer and the fact that she lost memory cards whichhad the photos on. She also took it upon herself to compile the official photograph album without any consultation and my son and his wife have been left with an album of photos which would not have been their choice. The photographer agreed she had made a mistake but said there was nothing further she could do.

We have excellent pictures ourselves of most of the wedding taken by my husband and a friend of ours. There are two pictures which we would like from the disc produced and do not feel inclined to give this woman even more money for the poor results and upset she caused.

Get AvsPMod, AVISynth and install AVISynth (you might have this installed already if you have used any freeware conversion software - check installed programs first.

De-compress AvsPMod into a folder and run the program.

Left Click in the upper window and press F9 and then select the AVI file. A line AVISource will appear with the filename.

On the Video menu look in the Zoom sub menu where you can select the zoom level to apply in case the images are large then Press F5 and then you can use the left and right arrow keys to scroll through the pictures. It displays each frame of the video including any transitions etc so you will need to find the best picture there is. You can use the zoom menu to select different zoom levels from 25% to 400% depending upon the videos resolution and picture size. Note that this does not alter the real image, it only affects the displayed size! Information about the video such as current frame, number of frames, and video resolution will be shown on the status bar.

To save the selected frame out press Ctrl + Alt + S and select the format which I suggest you use Png as the quality is the best. Jpg should not be used for important images as the quality worsens with every re-save!

If necessary you can do some image processing on the pictures such as sharpening, smoothing or colour adjustment depending upon the quality. You can easily resize them by adding a command after the AVISource line such as spline64resize([xsize],[ysize],[leftcrop or ],[top crop],-
,-[bottom crop]) you can resize the image to whatever size you want but increasing the size too much will worsen the quality.
    Spline64Resize(1024,680)
For basic resizing, but be aware of the Aspect Ratio so you don't change it. The Aspect ratio might not be correct in the images if she altered them in any way. Look for known circular objects to check.

For larger magnifications using a program such as Photoshop with Perfect Resize 7 should give the best results. I haven't used this program because it's quite expensive but it's meant to be the best available image resizer. I don't know whether there is a trial which would do what you wanted.
