Alloy Wheel Delivery

Hey,

I've probs got nothing to stand on here but just wanted to check if i do or not. Basicly i sold a set of alloys wheels to someone in aberdeen and arranged on a site offering "Next Day Delivery" on the 15th of December, at this point the tracking number stated that it would be picked up the next day ovb the 16th of December.

At this point on the 16th of December at 4.23pm (or so) still no pick up, so i sent an email asking why this was.

"Hi,

I was wondering when you will be collecting this as it's now 4.23pm and as agreed on the booking the "Collection Date: Thursday 16 December 2010", i have tried calling your contact numbers 7-8 times and the landline number is always engaged and the mobile number doesn't work hence the email. The payment has been made for collection and there has been 2-3 people in the house at all times since the order was placed. The package needs to be delivered by this weekend, so can you please advise me when this will be done. I would be best pleased with an email back today about this.

Iain"

At this point i got an email back at 5.46pm very quickly, but this was all it said.

"tracking number is

UNG19694 and website is www.city-link.co.uk and local agents number is 08444930930"

Now after many phone calls the package was only picked up on the 29th of december, not really next day delivery haha. I phoned them today and asked for a refund and was told no due to an act of god. The guy on the phone stated it's up on the website about the delays, i have read them on this current link...

http://www.paisleyfreight.com/service-message.pdf

to see most 4 days delay not 13 days :/.....

Do i have anything to stand on in terms of a refund?

The delay was not 13 days. The delay is around 6 working days when you consider weekends and the bank holidays, this is not much more than they state on their website and is not unreasonable considering the weather conditions.

It doesn't state anything about working days on there also....the postcodes affected ain't mine or the postcode it was going to be delivered to.

    There's your problem.

While I've never found a courier that isn't awful, City Link take it to a whole new level.

Since your agent is "Paisley Freight" can I assume you are in Glasgow? Wasn't the weather pretty bad up that way around those times though? Maybe their depot is in one of the affected postcodes.

Yeah glasgow, but on the 15th and 16th it hadn't even started to snow where i was and there was no warning.

I have to say the chap was rather rude, "cut to the chase what do you want"....in all truth it wasn't such a big deal if he wasn't so rude about it all.

What i was really confused about was the fact when i emnailed about them not turning up that there was no mention of the weather, the post that was on the website.

Oh and just to mention when at first i asked when the post about the weather was updated he didn't know after it was found the packages were to be picked up on the 16th however he remembered it was infact the 16th this post was made on his site....hmm...

My favourite Sh*tty Link story is from early 2000, when I ordered a replacement parcel shelf for my car made from MDF. Yes this was for speakers but I was interested in quality moreso than volume. Anyway the supplier sent it by City Link who promptly walked up to my door while I was in (I had come home in my lunch break) and shoved a card through the door without knocking, then drove off before I could get outside to flag them down.

So I drove up to their depot in Bootle around 6:30 PM after they said all the trucks would be in and after half an hour of faffing about they couldn't find my parcel, "must still be on the van" they said despite the fact that they were locking up the depot for the night.

I walked off, and had to exit through the warehouse, and on my way out noticed a large flat parcel on top of two side by side boxes that one of their staff had been sitting on the entire time, smoking. He was finishing up his fag and got up and wandered off and I looked up at the parcel, sure enough it was mine. So I just picked it up, hoisted it on my shoulder and carried it out to the customer car park, stuck it in the car and drove off. It was never scanned out of their system or signed for or anything.

I never heard from them again, their computer should show the parcel as undelivered but they did not contact either me or the supplier to say they'd lost it.

I could've been a !!!! about the whole thing and complained to the supplier that it hasn't been delivered and City Link can't find it, can I have a refund, but I was happy to have just received my parcel in one piece.

However south of you it had and virtually all courier companies halted deliveries to and from Scotland and the North of England. Your consignment would have had to go to the main Citylink hub just outside Walsall and quite simply, there was no chance of it making it there.

In addition to that, Citylink, DHL and most other couriers stopped making collections, especially from 3rd party companies (companies like Parcelmonkey who re-sell Citylink/DHL etc) in the week after to try and clear the backlog.

I use Citylink and their website gave very good information of what was going on not only at national level but at depot level.

But ultimately, you asked about the right for a refund and I'm sorry but anything in the 3 weeks before Xmas came under Act of God.

citylink have to be the worst company ever- pacel booked in hub on 13th - arrived at my depot on the 04th rang them and they said that we could pick it up. Took a half day and went to pick it waited half an hour in a very grotty waiting area while they looked for it only to be told they couldnt find it but it would get delivered in the next few days so here is the telphone number you already have to ring us to make the 28 mile journey down again for us to try and find it then

    So city link quite hopeless

At the parcel company I used to do night trunking for, in the fortnight run up to Xmas they were processing over 250,000 parcels PER NIGHT. Occassionally the odd problem is going to appear.

As you don't tolerate any delay at all, even in the worst December we've had for over a century, in future, I suggest that next time its 3-4ft deep in snow over much of the UK you travel to the company/individual you bought it from and collect it yourself.
