Aerial retuning cost?

How much should simply re-tuning an aerial cost?
We moved into our rented property a few years ago and this is the first time we've tried to use the aerial (had sky since day one) and we've found it picks up 5 channels but they're all terrible quality.

It probably needs replacing with a better aerial, re-tuning it may not improve matters.0

Well our landlord was bragging about how good it was after we moved in, but like I said this is the first time since moving in that we've tried to use it.
Id be interested to know whos responsible for any replacement/repair, if it was a simple re-tune i'd just swallowed the cost0 -
About £60 to replace, and about the same amount of work to get up to it and re-aim it.
The cost of the aerial is only a few pounds to an installer so its virtually no extra cost to replace if required.
When you say 5 chanels, are you using a freeview box or just tuning in an old analoug TV?“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -
Brand new LCD TV with inbuilt freeview. It didn't pick up on any digital channels but that could be because our closest TV mast doesnt broadcast digital, other people in town who do want digital have to point at a different mast which gives us a different regions news but works fine.0

Then thats probably what you will need to do too.
An aerial installer will test your signal at both ends of your cable and tell you what you need.
Wich area are you in? there is a switchover guide HERE“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -
Derbyshire, the site says - Switchover is Still to come in this region Switchover starts from: 30 March 2011
Im starting to think i'd best let the landlord know about the problem and leave it at that, I didnt realise this would cost upwards of £50!0 -
It may not... but it depends where the aerial is sited. (in the loft is easier to access than on the roof)
It may be worth checking that all your connections are good and the aerial is actually connected to the tv, a loose connection can cause terrible signal loss.“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -
well the wall socket isnt screwed in which is odd but it 'looks' ok to me...
The whole setup is a bit weird though, the aeriel is on top of the house, outside, but we are the tallest thing around so theres no chance of other buildings or trees interfering... and there's a box on the side of the house which splits the cable from the aeriel into 2 different points, one goes downstairs in the lounge the other goes back up the side of the house to the master bedroom which is the one we want to use.0 -
Ah Ok then there "should be" a splitter in that box to feed both of your cables.
Have you tried the other socket downstairs? is it better or the same?“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -
