Freeview vs Freesat advice please

Hi all

I am after some advice:

I have just cancelled my Sky subscription and am thinking about getting one of the above.

Here are my details:

I currently have two inbuilt Freeview tv's in the house but dont think the aerial will be any good as half of it fell into the garden about a year ago!!!

I have a sky dish which (obviously) is in working order...

Which would be the best option for me? I am not all that bothered about HD channels (or should i be???) and how do i get these in all the rooms?

Please please can i only have plain english - i am a complete novice when it come to tv tech!.

Thank you for your help..

  • Go with the Freesat HD box and take advantage of all the free channels from the Astra sat. Having the HD box means you are set up if you change the TV for one which is either HD ready or Full HD.

Well the free option would be to simply continue to use your sky box, no need to 'upgrade' it if your not interested in HD right now.

    Why not?

The answer from Niv was valid and is your lowest cost option, just use your existing Sky receiver to watch all of the FreesatfromSky channels.
  • Ahhhhhhh - apologies - told you i am a tv tech div!!

So if when i cancel sky i will still be able to get all the channels that freesat gets? Do i need to change anything cards aerials etc...

Nothing to change, just cancel and leave your card in the receiver, you will get all FreesatfromSky channels without paying Murdoch a penny.

    You get these channels;

    http://www.sky.com/shop/freesat/home/what-can-i-watch/

Lineup is a bit different to Freesat.

Did you have Sky+ - if so you will lose the ability to record.

If recording is important you can buy a Humx Freesat recorder - Grade A boxes are good value from here.

One advantage of getting a freesat HD box is the ability to connect to the internet and access BBCi player and soon ITV player on your TV.
