Sorry to disagree with your wisdom but you are wrong with regard to Dreams pricing policy. When Dreams increase a product in price in order to bring it down in price later in the year, the prices go up in EVERY store for a minimum of 28 days.

That's actually complete rubbish (even though you quoted me wrong). Because they have a continuous sale.

As for the price promise, yes the goods are renamed but this is the same nearly everywhere, and Dreams will honour the promise on equivilant items.

Again this is complete rubbish. In many cases the spec has also been changed.

You seem to forget that I speak to 1000's of people, and most of them have already been into a Dreams store, or they have been ripped off by them in the past.

Now I'm not going to waste time arguing with a Dreams employee.

Consumers don't walk around with their eyes closed, you know! If someone is stupid enough to pay full price for something when it is clearly being price established then they deserve all they get. Of course the big companies use loads of different techniques to drive people through the doors, but at the end of the day if they don't like what they see when they get into the shop there is nothing to stop them walking straight back out again!

That just sums up the mentality of the sales staff in many big stores. They trat customers as prey. It is just one step away from being on Rogue traders.

I don't work in sales I do agree that if somebody is stupid enough to pay more than something is worth that is there problem.

I actually sold a DVD box set on ebay not long ago and knew at the time I could buy it for £17.99 from hmv.com at the time, I list it at £20.99 on a buy it now and it sold. My question is did I rip them off? I don't think so I merely gave them the option to buy at the price I set, I didn't stop them researching the price of the item elsewhere and I didn't stop them buying elsewhere.

Ha ha, good spot. You must have had sharp eyes to catch that one.

Their website is full of similar 'deals'

Plus the rather bizarre 'reverse' sale - it's cheap now, but will get more expensive in the future:

Don't all the sofa/leather companies indulge in this fakery to some extent? What about DFS and its constant "double discount" savings? Do they ever actually sell things at the claimed pre-sale price?

Indeed you would need sharp eyes.
There clearly needs to be a much tighter readability clause in the legislation. The next trick will be to put text that they don't want you to see on a background of identical colour.

The trouble is customers want Sale prices!

We all want to feel that we have grabed a bargain, noone wants to buy a product and then find it 10% cheaper in the same store in the next couple of weeks.

How many times have you heard "we got it in the sale". It's just giving the customer a reason to buy. The bigger companies have been at it for years now and it's slowly getting worse.

There are meant to be new guidelines out soon, stating that the stores should show how long the higher price has been charged for. But also the higher price MUST be in every store that sells that product not just 1 store in the middle of no where.

I just wish there was a law where you can only show one price. Thats the price, no sale, no RRP, no after event price. Just one price.

    Think it happens in Germany.

bought a sofa from harveys during the january sales, and got a call last week to say it was (finally) due for delivery.

paid £100 deposit instore, with the intention of paying the rest off just before it was going to arrive (ie now)
so i went on the website to find the contact details so i could pay the rest of teh amount owed off, and noticed that the price of the sofa now is £100 cheaper than we paid for it. with the discount on delivery we were "given" at the time, the sofa is now £83 cheaper via the website.

does anybody know what the policy is with prices changing, and how i stand in getting the amount owed reduced? (i'm not expecting amazon-style automatic cashback here)

tbh, i paid a price i was happy with at the time, so i'm not expecting to get any back, but i think it's pretty poor of them to have it cheaper even before it is paid for and delivered!

    anyone?

If it's not a made-to-order piece, you could try cancelling your order and re-ordering at the cheaper price, although Harvey's T&Cs give contradictory information regarding this, and I doubt you would get very far.
For products ordered over the Internet, you have the right to cancel orders on products that are not made to order by notifying us in writing (including email) before delivery or within 7 working days of receiving of the goods.

[online only] We promise to give you a full refund if you change your mind for any reason within 7 days of placing your order with us. After this date we will have in most cases a binding contract with our suppliers to supply or make your product.

TBH, I don't think you'll get anywhere with asking for a refund, but if you're happy with the price that you originally paid then I suppose that's something.

it was a standard build, they only had two colours available... but i guess cancelling would mean losing the deposit and waiting another 8-10 weeks?

i was happy with the price... till i found out that they had reduced it even further before i had fully paid for it or taken delivery!
