Interestingly the same small print is on the bottom of the price in the shop too.... Maybe a bit more of a heads up is required?... I like shopping (like lots of others) but I can window shop, and do. This is a trick that has been going on for ages (Argos is good at doing this)... Along with many of the supermarkets (putting prices up just before discounting them)... Keep an eye on the prices there will be one or two VERY expensive items so they can say 25% of stores charged this price for two weeks over (Date)... Sometimes it can be fun reading the small print!0

During my holiday in the UK over christmas I noticed a few of these on the tele.
From sale prices based on prices that had previously only been in place the month before (from the end of Nov), to my personal favourite of comparing the sale price with a price that had been in place during april/may of this year. And since it was an LCD TV had probably fallen in price a reasonable amount since then.
Not all adverts have the info, but some of them do, and you can get an idea of the scams they use for it.0 -
I spoke to a salesman in a bed shop once who was very open about the practice. They put their prices up each year for inflation at the start of December. Then they put them back down to what they were before in January so they could stick big "Sale" notices everywhere. At the end of the sale they returned to the new price for the year.
This was in the days when inflation was higher so I imagine they are now boosting the ups and downs more to make the sale prices look better.0 -
This seems to be common practice - but not everyone is astute enough to notice - especially if the purchase of large items is rare. How about a campaign to end this consumer con for good!!0

I do have a different school of thought here.
I give up with all these percentages off etc and just look at the final price (I don't care how they got there) and decide if its good value.
With that argos seemed to have cleaned up on this last sale leaflet I saw, each item had a previously sold at price (lowest price).Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

Harveys are also very good at 'buy today - sale ends monday' and then carrying on with the sale for another month or so.0

I don't know if they still do this, but Harveys used to charge a delivery fee even if you picked the items up yourself in store, meaning it was impossible to ever buy anything from them at the prices they advertised.0

I have seen these too, price up, price down, price up, price down.
I will never buy from dfs, harveys, scs, csl and buy my stuff from a reputable local company.
My three seater and two seater sofa is now eight years old and starting to wear abit but I will buy my next one from the same place.Mortgage Free 2016Work Part Time:DHouse Hunting In France 20230 -
I would quite happily buy from the likes of DFS, yes I may have to wait a week for the next 'Sale' but if the price is right then why not?Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

Yep ... we've been looking at bed prices lately, and I thought I'd go look see how much the memory foam mattress we've currently got was being sold for now.. It's on sale, same supplier, for £49 more than we paid for it a couple of years ago..
And remember Sainsbury's "buy 1 get 2 free" on Pringles ? Except the price of 1 was over £2 for the few weeks before and after, when most places have them for about £1 each...0
