  • On another site linked to that number, I found this:
They rang me and said "what's your name". I gave a wrong name and then they said "we are chasing a loan that has not being paid". When I say "I have not got a loan", she said "yes you have". I replied "that's funny, because I gave you a false name", and she hung up.

sounds like a scam to me, first contact is unlikely to be threatening CCJ and statute of limitiations on this sort of thing is 6 years so time barred in any event (unless you admit involvement)

My OH just rang them and asked them who they are and they said they're a credit debt company called CCM and also a solicitors office... all very strange, isn't it awful how they can make you feel so worried and stressed like that?

Be careful here...... Think...... How did they get your details from a car you owned 7 years ago? The vehicle must either be registered in your name still OR they brought that car and saw your details as previous owner.

Not sure how this works but if theres outstanding finance on a car, I "think" the MIB can claim costs which are added to that finance, this could be where these CCM folk come into things.

Don't just brush this off as a scam without making damn sure, get the right number, call the MIB and check with them directly before you do anything else!!

Don't do anything any debt correct or not is statute barred after six years. It is for them to prove the debt exists and not for the OP to prove it doesn't.

They have probably bought a portfolio of old debts they are trying to collect on, and somehow traced the car VRM back to the OP. Or as is well known for DCA's to have got the wrong person all together.

The car was an old car which my OH bought through the garage he worked for at that time which was a main dealer garage so the car was checked out (debt wise etc.).

No, from what I can gather, this company (CCM) are chasing us for an alledged uninsured loss by the Motor Insurance Bureau.. but why on earth didn't the MIB contact us direct in 2003 or whenever the alledged accident took place.

I would simply write back and say you acknowledge no debt to them or anybody else.

as previously stated they are scammers/chancers and no good can come from having any contact with them (so don't)
