One thing you'll also need to learn: whatever you buy for your cats to sleep on, they won't use it. They will sleep on anything that *you* need, like a newspaper, or a jumper. Or a throw for your couch. Or a laptop keyboard.
Anything, really, that you need to get your hands on will be their preferred bed.
You no longer own your home. I hope you know that.
(Oh - and Zebedee mice are the most AMAZING mice in the world. My cats quite literally lose their minds when I give them one to play with.)
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -

Ability to sleep through 3am litter spraying sessions.
Hair-repellant clothing.
Cast iron furniture.
Vacuum cleaner 10 times more expensive than you've ever thought possible.
Endless spare hours with which to pick fur off clothes, furniture, behind kitchen appliances and behind radiators.
A complete loss of sense of smell.
Iron clad legs and shoulders. (For needle tipped cuddles)
A laser pointer.
Acceptance that you are no longer the boss of your own home and there is at least one Supreme Leader.
Go for it!
Daisy looses her balls all over the place, often under the bed or somewhere in the kitchen.I use a torch to see under the bed & she finds it great fun to chase the light spot around.
It's also bloody painful when you get up in the middle of the night for a loo break & tread on a bloody ball!! Certainly wakes you up!!!:rotfl:
One thing tho, don't get plastic bowls for the cats as they can cause Feline Acne.Get ceramic or as tealady suggested, from a charity shop.

My dd has already found a radiator cat bed thing and is insistant !!!!!cat needs it
We have 3 sofas - puss will be able to chose his own
The cat does need the radiator bed. It is there for the occasional looking cute and regular making you shake your head and wonder where he hides all that fur before it clings to the bed.
He will want your sofa. Whichever one that you are sitting on. And when you go to the loo, he will claim your exact seat. No other seat will do. It has to be yours.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

i must be very spoilt with my cats.
they seem to prefer their own cat beds, but in general they stay off the sofa. only time the male goes onto the sofa is when i have left a blanket on the sofa! female hasn't ventured up before.
saying that, for a week in december the male cat would only sleep in the dog's crate in the living room, and the female has for the past couple of days preferred sleeing in the dog's bed in my bedroom!
dog just looks confused and sleeps on the floor. it is first come first serve in my house... you can share if you want, but you cant push the first resident out!

They're training the dog before they start on you.

The normal state of affairs for canine underlings.
Just wait until they decide the dog has finally accepted his place.
You'll be next!

Yep - my computer chair is black, my cat is black - I have to check whether it's been nicked when I move, especially since she likes to claim it by lying on her back, legs in the air, claws out ready in case I try to sit down again.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -

What do we need to get other than bed/litter tray/food/ food bowl?
Myself and DD are going to the local cat rescue this week as the 'cat woman' called and said she had 2 ideal cats for us.
I thought we wouldn't be considered as we have 2yr old twins but the 'cat woman' ~(she said thats what everyone calls her) said she will match cats with people/familys and there is a cat for everyone
How will i chose between them?
Both are boys around 2 ish both lived with familys with young children and were displaced by either a new baby or a dog....
Both been vet checked and neutered.....
I can see me having to go out and buy another cat bowl...
echo the scratching post - my cat didn't use his at all until about a month ago, but he does like to use it now. get a heavy ceramic bowl for the water too - we had a plastic one to start with and the cat took great pleasure in overturning it all over the floor as soon as it had any water in it! he does occasionally try it with the heavy one now, but he can't manage it
.
oh and i wouldn't bother with a cat bed - we bought one, cat didn't even deign to paw at it never mind sleep on it!0
